  • Got some unofficial news for you folks: These are my last stats.

I've been really busy recently, my PCs give me nothing but trouble and I've lost a lot of interest I had in DC. I've been doing these stats since 11/11/2005, which is quite some time, and I think it's time for me to move on. I'm not saying that I'll leave TA or something like that. I just don't have as much time at my hands as I used to have. Plus, the interest in the Rosey stats has slowly but constantly deteriorated, although this is sitll one of the best BOINC projects around IMHO. TA in general has become more quiet (aside from the please delete threads 😉 ) Rattledagger's daily SETI stats are only viewed by a couple of folks a day as well. Looks like only F@H with the GPU and PS3 client attracts some people these days.

Anyway, thx to those of you how stuck with me and the stats and kept posting once in a while. And again, this is not about "I don't get enough 'thank you' posts." It's only about myself.

If anyone of you is interested in continuing the stats - and I mean really interested - please let me know and I'll introduce you to "BMC's way of Rosey stats." 🙂

😛

BMC with thx to CyGoR

I understand, no problem. We appreciate what you've done to this point. I'd be happy to take it over....that is, if people are interested in it. Anyhow...

Thanks for all you've done BMC! 🙂

Well said and I too understand.

Thanks BMC 🙂

Sorry to see this is your last stats, but I understand totally. You have done a great job with this thread but a lot of times real life calls us away and that has to be the top priority. I used to be much more involved before my marriage too....it's funny how getting married to a beautiful vibrant woman makes you think less about DC 😉 😀

Is this "woman" a upgrade? Sounds overpriced, the audio is scratchy at times, and to top it off its outdated but you can't upgrade! 😛

@Bad Thad: If people are really interested can be found out easily. Just start a new thread with a poll, asking the TeAm if they want them or not. And if you get less than let's say 20 or 25 votes all in all, don't even bother continuing the stats IMHO.

@Crazee: Yes, real life changes from time to time. My marriage last year didn't really have much of an influence on my interest in DC, but as time goes by, I just got less interested. I guess it also has to do with the rising costs (both time & $) of keeping up even a small farm like mine. I just spent 100$ on a new PSU just to keep my main rig working.

@imaheadcase:  Yes, it's hard to upgrade these "women", but at least they can be fitted on old spare parts like us! 😉

Is there a was to automate the states with a script? Them just have someone past them here once a week. Would be easier for everyone.

Script lovers around?

I actually use a script but have to fill in certain things (new members, leavers, in team climbers, overall climbers, news, all milestones above 1,000,000,...). Takes me about 5 to 10 minutes to do the stats.

It's just that I don't see people really want them anymore, or, don't mind seeing them go.

I would like to add my thanks for a job well done, BMC. :wine:

Things have certainly changed around here. Or maybe we have all changed. Lot's of reasons ... that's for sure.

I often think back to the heady days of Seti Classic, the membership drives, the fighting for each and every member and each and every work unit. Of course, I was fairly new to DC and the TeAm. "New broom sweeps clean" certainly applies to me. 😉

I'd like to thank BadThad for offering to step up. Being one of the old (literally) stats guys I can vouch for the "grind" and the sometimes feeling of being under appreciated.

I am often guilty of trying to psychoanalyze to the extreme. (A pun as you will see.) Most of you have surely noticed the new big kid on the block. The Electronics Sports League is making all of our contributions to Rosetta look a little pathetic. This is, of course, great for Rosetta and the good research which we all support. There is just no way we can ever compete with the output of the ESL. They have sort of taken all of the air out of the room. I guess it is about time for me to add the obligatory "IMHO". 😉 🙂

Anyway, Christian, thank you for all that you have done for the TeAm.

:wine: :wine: :wine: :wine: :wine:

Thx for the kind words Greg.

Indeed, the ESL has changed "the balance of the force" but as you said, the more power, the better for Rosey.

I've noticed that as well.

I remember the SETI classic days when everyone was stats crazy. It seemed like every project had stats on the page. Now it's hard to even find stats in the DC forum.

I have also done stats, for a much smaller project a long time ago, and it does become tiring.

It seems to me as if the DC forum has dwindled down a bit. A lot of the old faces I used to see posting frequently just aren't around anymore. It's sad to see. The DC forum used to be a hopping place.

BMC I would also like to thank you very much for the stats for Rosey. While I do like the stats (being on the charts especially) I rarely have the time to actually check them anymore. I have been keeping tabs 2 or 3 times a week, I just have not took to the time to thank you for each posting.

Congrats on a job well done!

Thanks BMC.

I'd still be interested in seeing stats, if someone wanted to do them. But if it was easier, something like just doing a once-a-week summary would be fine.

Thanks for doing the Rosey stats for so long, BMC

I totally understand how you feel, so I can't volunteer to do Rosey stats.

I try to just look at the "Views" column and keep going. After all, there is so little activity in the DC forum these days that the stats thread doesn't need to be "bumped" to the top to stay on the first page 😱 😕

Stats are always appreciated. You do what you can, & hope you've had an effect on other people's lives, even for just a minute. Just putting a smile on someone's face can really set your mind at ease. 🙂

It's just that there are so many projects these days. We've been spread too thin. Alot of them also don't have an easy identifiable "WU" like Seti Classic did. One WU was easy to recogize. It was easy to calculate in your head how many you needed to grab the next spot up the ladder, & how many a new machine would add.

To top it off, everyone's lives are just so damn complicated now. Everyone is so tired, that sometimes just falling asleep & not even bothering to say "hi" to anyone is preferred. I see it everywhere, old friends, people on the street, even my own family. Everyone works so hard, that we have nothing left to give. Alienating ourselves, eating dinner alone, watching tv alone, it's all lead to us & everyone around us just being overwhelmed with a melancholy outlook towards everything. It's the bad stuff on the news, your boss yelling at you, the anxiety that builds up every time your kids walk out the front door, why your grandmother doesn't recognize your face anymore, you don't even feel happy on your own birthday, you wonder if you ever had any real friends to begin with. Why is this doctor forcing pills down my throat instead of helping me? What am I really doing here? Am I going to be stuck here for the rest of my life? When does it all end?

We try to escape, but there is nowhere to go. We just want to be happy, but we are just so confused as to why it seems as if it's never going to happen.
Don't ****** ignore it & tread around it, you all know it's happening. We all need to look at life for what it really is, & just swallow it. Stop bullshitting ourselves all at once start living again.

Thanks for all you have done BMC !!!😀

.....and congrats to all of the

Highest climbers

Milestone makers

Top producers

Hey Team:thumbsup:

🙂

I was wondering what happened to your R@H stats & just finally read this.

I know exactly how you feel. I recently handed off doing the daily SOB stats as it was getting hard to do them daily & i wasn't doing the project anymore so that was part of it too.

I was just thinking lately about asking if people want a weekly thread on some project that isn't already being covered, maybe to gain some more interest. I'll have to think about that.

Anyway, don't be a stranger around here BMC & i hope those computers start treating you better 🙂

Thanks for all the time you put into the stats BMC, it certainly was appreciated.

And to Spacehead, running perhaps a project thread for a smaller project would be great. Maybe not necessarily daily stats, but weekly updates or something. I've thought about this for chess960@home. Yesterday we had a whopping 3 users turn in a whopping score of 337.

I will agree though that the overall DC hype is fairly mundane on this forum lately. Its probably just because its not new or exciting lately. We still have some major stat producing crunchers though.

And as every year, we always have a lack of interest in summer time. Just wait till those cold days come again, and people will need to heat their rooms again --> DC time! 😛

I don't have anything new or profound to add.

I still look for the thread, and will miss the personal touch that a fellow TeAm member adds, but I can certainly understand.

Thanks for your efforts on our behalf.

Welcome Duke! Great to have you on the TeAm and crunchin' R@H.

Things are a bit slow with the summer heat. This week I shut down most of my boxes to save on electricity. I run systems in my home office that is on the 2nd floor and it ends up getting really hot up here. So, to keep the AC from running as hard, I shut down till the fall.

Thanks BMC!

I don't visit the stats as much in the summer with most of my systems being turned off because of the heat also.

Thanks for your dedication and we sure do understand.

See you around

Question guys - I have a couple of PCs I want to run R@H on. I can set seperate work and home preferences, but how do I designate a certain PC to follow my "work" or "school" preferences? Can't seem to find that one to schedule different times and resources.

Thanks.
