And what's the best client to use for Rosetta on a P4? I'm just using the basic download from the boinc website.

Whetstones are a measure of the systems floating point operations (FLOPS) and dhrystones are a measure of interger operations per second.

Download and setup the normal BOINC client. Then replace the with the appropriate files from HERE..

Hmm...my XP boxes (SSE, not SSE2) are getting better results from the 5.2.13 client here.

However, my A64 and Opteron are doing very well on the Truxoft client. Example: my 146 went from 2540/4561 to 3242/10502

Schweet!

Hi yall! Finally figure out how to get on here. Been doing the seti@home classic for years and it shutdown. Sorry I don?t chat much but I do come around once in a while. I have Boinc setup to do 50% Seti and 50% Rosetta. My 5-year-old 850MHz home built puter don?t out put much, but every little bit helps.

I don't think an average PPD can get any lower. Posts per day, that is. Glad to have your help :)

Also on the Truxoft client you can set it to return the results after each one is finished.

How, may I ask, do you do that? And is there an advantage in doing so?

unfortunately I've run into a problem. my computer is overheating when running boinc so until I find a solution mine will be disabled. I need a way to throttle the CPU and control the temperature better.. I'm pushing 60C and the chip wont go much higher than that.

athlon64 3700+ 2.4Ghz socket 754
Biostar NF325-A7 mobo (failing) < may be giving the CPU overvoltage at times

How are you getting the temp? BIOS read out or some programe like MBM or speedfan?

Do you use the standard heatsink + fan combination or an aftermarket one?

Do you use a thermal pad or thermal paste? If yes, which one?

For a prog to throttle CPU usage, look for ThreadMaster But that's not a remedy for your problem, just a solution for now.

fan is aftermarket .. thermaltake golden orb II
thermal paste.. antec silver 5, no pad
the board came with ITE smart guardian to monitor the temperature, unfortunately that's all it does, doesn't stop the computer if there's a problem

when are you getting the new mobo again :)

60c is definitely on the warm side but its really not that bad. the max temp is 70c, no?

i don't know of any program that will help you seeing as your mobo is failing and can't be relied on to provide the proper vcore.

btw, i'm not trying to tell you to run something that is not comfortble for you, just giving an "imo"

Greg not sure about any advantages but here is how to do it:

the additional options and features by editing the file global_prefs.xml

# return_results_immediately - this parameter forces the boinc client to report completed results immediately after uploading. <return_results_immediately/>

new mobo *should* be here by friday

until then I'll just run it when i'm here so I can watch the temperature.
Vcore is definitely acting up, or biostar is just complete crap.
it's slightly OC'd to 2477MHz

My Opteron ran at 57c running boinc with regular fan but when I install TT Big Typhoon my temp went down to 40c and with an overclock of 700mhz. But now my A8N-E chipset is getting up to 62c... something else to replace :)

BTW it's an Opteron 165 currently running at 2500mhz.

I hope your new mobo will do the trick.

well, the board finally gave out. I now get a bios error saying the IDE controllers cannot be found, so, I think it fried em. yay for friday.

so, the board is history I'd guess. Total Life: 2Weeks 3Days
