Rosetta and X2 4400+

Hi.

I just swapped my 754 3000+ for a 4400+ X2 running rosetta.

In device manager I dont have an entry for processor.
Under Computer, is shows standard PC.
In task mananger I dont show 2 cores.

I used the same harddrive and install of Window XP PRO and reactivated it.

What do I have to do to run rosetta on both cores ?

PS, I am fixing to upgrade my 754 3400+ to a dual core also, hopefully a 5000+ or faster.

Regards and thanks.

Install the AMD driver for the 4400+X2. This will inform XP and XP will inform Boinc.

You also need to set 2 processors in the Boinc general preferences.

You have to get into your Rosetta account and specify that you want the process to use multiple processors. The default is 1 cpu. Personally, I only have 2 core machines, but I told Rosetta to use up to 8 so I won't have to remember to do this in the future. It's not a boinc setting, it's a R@H website/acct setting.

Actually the Rebel Alliance account is setup to use up to 8 cores already Richard. So you don't have to worry about that. You do need to install the Amd driver like Rudy posted.

Thanks guys 😀

Yeah, it is a nice upgrade, I cant wait to get my other PC upgraded also.

Saving my pennys.............

I installed the driver and I still only show one cpu ???

I built an A64 X2 3800+ AM2 for a Friend with a fresh install of XP and 2 cps's showed up in everything.

I was going to reload my PC later anyways so I thinl I will go ahead and do it tonight.

Regards.

Richard.

I don't know if this will do it, but go into control panel and scan for new hardware. Maybe, it will find the CPU.

Good luck!

Fresh install Looks for the hal setting reboot should do it richard might take 2 (my opty 165 did that 3 reboots before it updated) had me worried for a minute lol

Thanks for all the replys.

In CPUZ I only show 1 cpu, 1 L1 and 1 L2.

In memtest only 1 L1 and 1 L2.

I tried fresh install of XP PRO using 3 different hard drives and 2 different XP disks.

It starts the normal install then after a little while I get a blue screen saying "Its shutting down to keep from damaging your system" or something to that effect.

There is also a a "STOP" with address 0x0000007E and a bucnh of othe rstuff.

Below that is a "PCI.sys-Address F7B60BF base at blah, blah.........

I am on 2 passes of memtest as of now and no errors yet.

Could my CPU be defective ??

One core not working??

Thanks.

Richard.

This thing runs fine with the original instal of XP

ECS K8M890M-M v1.0a

I had a socket 754 mobo with an A64 3000+ and XP PRO.

I changed the mobo, cpu and ram only.

I had to reactivate windows and some drivers and it runs fine except for one core only and the not letting me install XP.............

Thanks for the replys.

I updated the bios and it is supposed to support up to X2 6000+.

Frys swapped the cpu, didnt help.

It had to be the mobo.

I went back to Frys today to swap the mobo, they had just put up a new add.

mATX 6100S mobo with retail AM2 4800+ for $129.00.

I asked them to give me credit on the mobo/3800+ and I will buy the one on sale.

I just got it loaded and crunching rosetta.....everything works great.

Thanks for all the replys and trying to help.
