This seems to be bad news for Rosenstein. I expect Trump to now try to pressure Sessions to fire him. It also gives an excuse for GOP senate to willingly confirm a replacement. I wonder if they will try to put in somebody who will end the Russia investigation.

That said, I am very proud of my hero. He made a great decision in firing James Comey who deserved nothing less for giving us this hell of Trump rule. Hopefully he finds a way to keep his job. Rod Rosenstein tried his best to save America and he punished the one person who got us here (Comey).

This feels like very dangerous and irresponsible reporting.

Apparently somebody who was privy to the conversation is pushing back, saying the comment was "obvious sarcasm". This seems like a hit job by NYT on Rosenstein.

Funny how people call the NYT "liberal" when they were the biggest purveyors of the Hillary email story and now they are going after Rosenstein to help Trump.

It's just a pre-release of information that is going to be in the email dump after it's declassified. They got a jump on it in order to spread out the political commotion. It's not as if The New York Times is a Trump ally.

From the story

"Mr. Rosenstein then raised the idea of wearing a recording device or “wire,” as he put it, to secretly tape the president when he visited the White House. One participant asked whether Mr. Rosenstein was serious, and he replied animatedly that he was."

I just read the story too, pretty thin but I find it funny all the recording going on in the Trump White House

Knee jerk reaction from me is that this is a leak from someone working to give the unindicted conspirator cover to fire Rosenstein.

Wouldn't surprise me if President Trump, one of his family member or someone in the whitehouse is behind this leak.

Regardless of who is behind the leak the fact that this was even brought up should be deeply concerning to everyone. These guys are in most cases lifelong Republicans and they are taking a look at Trump and saying basically 'America needs to know what this guy is really like'.

Actually, "leak" may have been the wrong word for me to use as it implies that the event in question actually happened. If the report is designed to provide cover to fire it could be completely made up.

It very well could be totally made up but frankly it's terrifying either way. If it's made up then it's scary because it's an obvious attempt to purge the FBI.

If it's not made up that means Trump's behavior has been so unstable that senior officials felt it was necessary to collect evidence to justify invoking the 25th amendment.

FBI has already been purged. All the people at the top have been replaced.

This is an effort to purge the DOJ.

No no, the FBI has not been fully purged. Only after every single agent's and administrator's texts have been examined, for even the slightest hint of, say, disapproval for the appearance of POTUS's comb-over on any given day, and such employees eliminated, can we determine that the deep state anti-MAGA agents within the FBI have been effectively purged.

Wasn't Rosenstein perturbed that his memo was used to justify firing Comey? Also, do you really think Comey is the one person responsible for Trump's election? You wouldn't attribute any blame to Clinton for her stupidity in setting up the situation that allowed the Comey investigation to exist?

You are dumb. I wish you felt bad about it enough to change that.

He was upset because he was used by Trump to go after Comey (after Comey refused his loyalty pledge and also refused to stop investigating Flynn). The real reason for Trump requesting the firing was to stop the Russia investigation instead of the stated (and accurate) reason that Comey had made ridiculous statements denouncing Hillary Clinton and "re-opening" the investigation days before the election.

Even if Comey deserved to be fired, he didn't deserve to be fired on behalf of Trump and to stop the Russia investigation. He should've been fired for his actions prior to the election.

Rosenstein issued a rare statement himself forcefully denying the Times report.
"The New York Times's story is inaccurate and factually incorrect. I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the Department and are advancing their own personal agenda," Rosenstein said in a statement Friday obtained by CNN. "But let me be clear about this: based on my personal dealings with the President, there is no basis to invoke the 25th Amendment."

With Manafort flipping and Cohen cooperating plus the renewed tirades against Sessions this strikes me as the first step in wiping everyone out and shutting things down.

You are dumb. I wish you felt bad about it enough to change that.

And you have displayed an inability to use analytical thinking rather than flinging baseless insults. I wish you had the intellectual capacity or motivation to change that.

What exactly did I say that was dumb? Did Rosenstein not express concern that he was used to fire Comey as reported here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehil...by-the-white-house-in-comey-firing-report?amp

Do you disagree that Hillary setting up a private server was a stupid and unnecessary act regardless of it's legality? Do you disagree that Hillary handled the email investigation poorly, exacberating it as a scandal and making her vulnerable to Comey's pre-election letter?

I do disagree. Particularly since it was the server that wasn't hacked.

No one wanted to hear that it was successful security.
