I had my Evo rooted but had to go back to take my phone in to Sprint to get the charger port fixed.

I used this guide 2 years ago when I rooted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=690762

Can I just follow that guide again or do I need updated files?
Mainly want to tether again.

Phone info:
Baseband: 2.15.00.12.19
Kernal: 2.6.35.10-g4b48446
PRI: 2.33_003

TIA

I saw that guide but closed the page after I saw that all the guides were "Defunct".

This one is a bit more up to date:

The main thing is initially getting root and setting your phone to S-OFF (S-ON means the bootloader is locked; S-OFF is an unlocked bootloader that will let you install a custom recovery and flash custom roms). That guide will show you how to do that.

Once you have your phone rooted with S-OFF, you install a custom recovery. After that, it's simply a matter of downloading the rom of your choice and flashing it from that recovery. Of course you will also want to make a backup of all your data using three apps: Titanium Backup (for user apps and data), SMS Backup & Restore, and Call Log Backup & Restore.

Custom roms all come pre-rooted so once you start flashing it gets much easier. The hard part is initially rooting and installing the custom recovery.
