I want to root my phone when one becomes available but only to remove the crap Sprint puts on the Evo. I don't need apps for nascar, fagbook, friendster, etc.
I backed up my files with Astro to the SD card and used AppBrain as a reminder.
After I root, do I have to reinstall the apps or can I use the back up to restore them?
If I go back to Froyo 2.2, do I have to reinstall all the apps or can I use the backup?

TIA

But, I thought you liked me on Facebook. Damn you Olds...

Many of the custom ROMs include a download of "google apps" that you install seperately from the custom ROM, for some reason Google thinks it owns the apps it releases.

Download Titanium backup from the market and you're good to go... for all the other apps, free

I find that I only use some core apps, so I don't mind downloading them after a ROM update....

I just don't want the services running in the background or trying to sync.

You better get used to it, a lot of the apps in the marketplace gather data, Google stuff in particular, that's why they released the OS... To gather data on Android users & target advertising.

But if I root, I get to pick which ones do or don't.
No reason for the stock app to run or sync (among others). I would never use it (them).
