since 4.0.4 is AOSP, devs have been hauling ass to get their roms updated with the 4.0.4 specs

so the big question is, who has taken the leap?

I'm backing up ATM, but going with my good ol' gummy nex for my 4.0.4

(i was on the AOSP 4.0.4, but it was weird because of the chinese to english thingy long story)

I'm tapping my fingers impatiently for the official OTA, hoping it addresses some GPS stability issues.

I've had a leaked 4.04 for a month now and it's been good. This is a much newer build so I'm waiting for some ROMs to be made off it.

I prefer the OTA straight from Google server. It's why I paid a premium for Nexus phone.

Got my Galaxy S II running a Skyrocket AOSP port. Been solid so far, only problem is the screen rotation.

I've been running Axi0m's 4.0.4 crossbread rom for almost a month now. The first couple releases were fast and smooth but so-so on battery. The current version I'm on is fast and smooth and one of the better roms I've used for battery. I get about 2 hours screen on and go from about 7am-bed...usually around midnight or so. Usually have about 30-40 minutes of talk time and about 50 texts going out on average.

GPS seems to work great for me. I leave 4G on all day and only connect to wifi at home. BT is on and connects when in my car. About an hour each day. I leave everything on...location, bt, wifi, auto brightness, etc.

anyone else see a day where cellphones are obsolete because 'media hubs' will be virtually everywhere? every car, home, and public place will have free use internet hubs that you just use to get onto whatever service you have... be it skype, facebook or whatever. even our contacts will have hud's built in. i think the whole idea of having to carry an electronic device on you just to communicate with other people will be silly

You've got a decade or two before that will happen.

And you'll still be "carrying" a communicator of some sort. It might be built into glasses (contacts will be further out, 5-10 years after initial release to be affordable - hopefully able to be licensed/integrated by different manufacturers. My eyes are VERY picky about my contacts so I am concerned about that), in watches, on a small clip-on earpiece/headwear of some sort, etc.

And I doubt any "internet hubs" will be free. The hardware might be built into regular commodities, but that service? Most certainly not free, unless you can deal will a massive number of audio/visual ads that are highly interrupting, and likely tiny data caps. I do see such coming forth like FM radio services and basic TV - but it will be forever limited.

Unlocking the bootloader and rooting the G Nex shouldn't affect OTA updates, right? Just custom ROMs you have installed?

^theres no point in getting OTA when you can get custom roms or just straight AOSP 4.0.4 from xda or rootzwiki.

custom roms are based off of AOSP.

Correct. My GNex is rooted with unlocked bootloader. I tested it with 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 update. Root and unlocked bootloader make no difference. But everything else must be completely stock. I recommend installing OTA Rootkeeper app from the market before applying the OTA update to preserve your root.

I'm really liking the 4.0.4 update. Smoothness is back to 4.0.1 level which was my big complaint with 4.0.2. I'm getting faster upload/download with the new radio. Best I got before was 4 down 1 up with the average being about 2-3. Now I'm getting 7-9 down and 3 up on T-Mobile.

People say camera is better with less chance getting blurry shot and multi touch bug is fixed but I haven't tested it yet. Battery life looks just as good as 4.0.2 but it's still too early for me to judge.

Supposedly Google fixed/improved over 100 things with this update.

There's no point using custom roms or ASOP when you can get OTA directly from Google server. Google > Rootzwiki themers.

I like the stock ICS look and probably won't deviate too far from what I have now with ICS and Launcher Pro. But I still can't wait for CM9.

Quite a few Asus Primes were bootlooped taking OTAs after root. Careful taking an official OTA if you've rooted and flashed any custom recoveries.

Any GPS fixes in there? My Nexus tends to reboot when using Navigation. Its my only real complaint with the phone.

Your thread is entitled "4.0.4 ROMS are out." I am asking you, WHAT is a 4.0.4 ROM.

I hope that makes sense, because I would have no idea how to explain it more clearly.

Thanks

Now that the 4.0.4 release of Android 4.x has been added to the Android Source Code, developers are compiling builds of Android using that version. 'ROM' probably isn't the best term these days, its a hold over from much much older devices.
