I was wondering if anybody knew of any good Root Server Hosts. Currently, I am looking at the $99/month + $99 one time setup fee package from 1and1.

It offers a root server w/
# Intel Pentium 4
3.06 GHz Hyper-Threaded or higher
# 1,000 MB DDR RAM
# 120 GB IDE hard drive
# 500 GB monthly transfer volume

FMI: http://order.1and1.com/xml/ord...45A.TC62b?__frame=_top

Just to clear some confusion before confusion arises:
1and1 root servers come with Plesk 7.5 and the website explicitly says that you are allowed to run gameservers (counterstrike).

I need a root server because i am looking to setup counterstrike servers, ventrillo servers, and also do some hosting.

Also, I do not know whether or not this server is enough for me to setup 2 counter-strike servers. 1 running for 20 ppl and the other running for 14 ppl. Also run at most 2 simultaneous ventrilo servers. and serve a couple of websites.

From the information that I gathered. CS server uses approx 60mhz/player connected. Hopeflly that means that running two CS servers will only hog approx 2GHz of the total server's power. I do not know if that is the way to calculate/approximate these figures, so I was wondering if you guys could help out.

If you guys have any suggestions on whether or not this would work and if you guys know of a better root server, please let me know.

Thanks in advanced.

You might be OK since it's a 3.06GHz processor, so it has HT, which may ease the strain a bit.

One way to find out would be check the Steampowered forums, or a CS website and ask other admins what setups they have, and how well they handle the load.
Best way to find out is to get other peoples experiences.

I'm assuming he means one where he gets a root account :)
I don't know about CS 1.6 or Source since I stopped my server after they shut down WON, but running a 16 player CS server on my Duron 650 hardly taxed it at all, so unless the requirements have gone up by a huge bit, you shouldn't have any problems with CS.
Don't know what this ventrilo thing is though, so no comment.

thanks for the current suggestions. I will try to look further into this. Does anybody know what other good hosting companies offer root servers that can be used as gameservers?
