Root change password?

I am at the boot: prompt after hitting ctrl-x when it got to that OS selection screen and i am trying to change the root password. I know I have done this before but can't remember how. Any one know?

I believe the command is 'linux single' or 'single'

Once you have booted into single user mode enter the command passwd and hit enter. It's that simple. Getting the system into single user mode depends a lot on the os you are using though...
