Root Canal without insurance?

Hi,

I have no Dental coverage and really need to get 1 or 2 root canals done.

I was told today that it would cost me about $850 each (just the root canal)

Is that "normal"

Yes, that's normal. Root canals are lengthy procedures.

Depends on the condition the tooth is in. Multi root = more. Post and cap = way more. Break out the checkbook OR tell the doc to get his pliars. 😉

Pliers + 15 minutes and you walking out with gauze in your socket ~ $50. There's dentists in central america that will do it real cheap and GOOD according to folks I spoke with that had the misfortune to have a bad tooth become abcessed while on their cruise.

p.s. don't extract - I was kidding. 🙂

They probably won't cover a pre-existing condition though.

:roll: Negligence is not the cause of all root canals. My front tooth was damaged from an impact trauma a few years ago and the root eventually died, requiring a root canal.

Yesterday I saw a dentist for a temporary fix to cover the sharp edge on a broken tooth. It took about 10 minutes with the actual dentist. It cost 58 dollars. A root canal is at least ten times more work and skill so $850 sounds right

made the mistake of getting a root canal and then didn't get the crown put on over it. Insurance didn't pay for a crown. ended up getting it pulled after it shattered and have a bridge now. are you sure you need a root canal or is the dentist just trying to get money from you. I am convinced that I never needed a root canal after having some deep cavities filled. you can get it pulled and an implant for $2000. crowns are more like $600 unless you are getting platinum. try the discount plan.

I was in the same boat as you awhile ago. I opted to pull out two teeth. Now I'm feelin good but I also now have insurance. Fvck me.

Suck it up, humans have been around for awhile without dentists.

Or you can try seeing if there's any dental schools local to you. They're students, but they're also supervised at all times.

Nobody takes that crap.
Those things are a rip-off.
I tried one of those plan a long time ago and no body would accept that.
I even ask my dentist about it and he tells me the same thing.

$2000 is on the higher side, you must be visiting Dentist for the stars.
Root canal should be around $500 and a crown around $800.

Thats the problem of getting a root canal....if you're lucky, you can only need a filling afterward.
If you're not then you need a crown.

I had a root canal 2 monmths earlier.
I was lucky and only need a filling but he tells me I should get a crown because after the root canal, my tooth is very thin and it can break with the filling.
If it breaks, the tooth would have to be pulled.

It would have cost me $1300 total for the root and crown.
