My llama roommate (rayma2) lost the heatsink grease for our other roomie's new computer. Anyone have a good household substitute until we get to radio shack?

I wouldn't put anything extra on. If you absolutely have to use the computer, then perhaps underclock the processor a bit and put the heatsink on bare.

I have never tried this, but I can't imagine it would work. Wouldn't the heat just turn it into a liquid?

Good God, how old are you? That's not even funny. It's not creative, clever, or cunning. I believe that I lost 10 IQ points just reading that line.

Silver goop - PDF

Doesn't everyone have some silver goop antiseize compound laying around?

I have wondered if this isn't the same stuff as that other silver heatsink compound. I don't think it really is, but a comparison would be interesting.

There are also copper anti-seize compounds at you local auto parts store. I've never tried it and this is a use at your own risk, but it would probably work.
