----- Cliff Notes -----
Roommate is moving out on a whim. Inbetween leases right now, so it's legal.
I don't want to move or live with a stranger. Too expensive/iffy.
It will cost me $1200-$1500 to foot her 1/2 until December when I want to buy a place if my new job works out.
Should I be pissed and try to make her pay an extra month or something since I'm getting shanked.
----- Long Version -----
I've been living with the same roommate for 2 yrs. She's 27, with a masters, makes some pretty low $ for her degree.
Tuesday night, she informed me that she's giving her 30 days notice to the landlord, quitting her job, and moving back home to S. FL to live with her parents while she searches for (preferably) a pharmaceutical sales job. She had decided this at 11am that very morning, after a random phone call from a friend in S. FL.
I was planning on purchasing a town home in Dec. if my new job worked out. I JUST started yesterday. MY problem, is that:
[*] I can't have a stranger living with me. I have too many items of value, and a dog. I don't know anyone looking for a place.
[*] I can't get into a new place unless I can go month to month, which I believe is rare, limits your decisions, and jacks up your rent a pretty penny
[*] new place = hookup fees & moving all my stuff, only to move again in Dec?!?!
[*] I don't want to be forced into buying a town home, I need to make a rational decision, and of course see how the new job pans out.
At this point, I'm going to suck up her 1/2 of the rent and utilities until December, at which point I'd like to get into a town house. This is going to cost me an extra $1200-1500 in the interim.
Realizing I really can't do much, should I be really pissed about this?
