Roomba 4100 RED Cordless Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

I've wanted a Roomba for ages. This one is the "budget" model lacking the fast charger, auto "home base," remote control or other fancy stuff. Basic Roombas used to go for $200. This one retails for $150 and that's the exact price Amazon has it for. $120 with no rebates is a pretty decent deal for these things.

Gosh darn, gonna have to stay off these Hot Deals forums... my Outpost.com shopping cart has $472.96 in it right now...

I paid $160 for Roomba Red at CCity about four months ago. I love it. I didn't think the remote control, home base, and fast charger that come with the Discovery model were worth the $100 premium; I am still happy with that decision. This thing works well, picks up the cat hair and the best part is I don't have to do anything and the carpet gets clean. If you make sure and dig all the crap out of it after each use, it should be reliable. It does a good job on hardwood floors too.

Can you comment on how loud it is? I tried a different mfgr a year ago and it was loud like a 'dustbuster'...
Thx.

i bought one at homdepot for $99 about 1/2 year ago. it was the red model too. i returned it after a months. its more of a gimmic. after a while the novelty wears off. i still had to use the big vacuum clearner after the roomba decided the carpet was clean.

My thinking is that any vacuum cleaner will be noisy. Kinda a universal truth unless proven otherwise.

Dang, you just made my decision more difficult. Still have it in my card... granted it gets mixed reviews but the majority that I've read have been positive. Back when the cheapest ones were closer to $200, the decision to pass was easy. Now, at $120... GAH!

Picked one up about a year ago for $100. Actually gave it to the wife for X-mas, and expected a left hook from her (and the associated black eye).

Currently, it lives as the best present she's ever received (her words).

We have two cats, and it does wonders on cat hair. I really thought it would only pick up the "visible" chunks of stuff on the floor, but it is really a very good all-around cleaner. Of course, it won't clean like a Dyson, but 1) it's not $500 and 2) you get to sit on the couch while it cleans....or mow the lawn....or go to the store...or lurk in ATHD....

Very good with dust, hair, etc., on hardwood floors too, whereas sweeping usually is a big hassle.

Many high-end remotes accept codes to control this Roomba, as well.

Noise is MUCH more quiet than a dustbuster. Very easy to have a conversation while in the same room.

Make sure your floor is free of things that would kill a regular vacuum and clean out the bin after each 1 or 2 uses and you'll love it. Speaking from experience, don't leave a guitar string on the floor and turn on the Roomba.

Also cleans under my couches and beds...just a few inches tall.

Buy it. You'll thank yourself.

I have to agree with solleyman. I never buy my wife stuff appliances and stuff as gifts because, well, I have to live here. I took a chance last Christmas because I read a lot of decent reviews on the Roomba, and figured it saved her work. She loved it. She still has to vacuum, but not as often, and feels like she's getting more done when it's running.

For those of you that have a Linens n Things nearby, I saw a 25% coupon link on "another" deal site that might bring it under $100 if they're priced normally.

I love mine. It picks up alot of dust in the little filter that I didn't expect.

Where can I get one of the remotes mentioned above, a universal remote that also controls the roomba would be cool. Also any deals on the 3hr charging base?

I think the roomba is more for a quick vacuum between real vacuums. How can you expect that poor little roomba to do the same job as a standup vaccum?

Check out www.roombacommunity.com. There is plenty of info about roombas in general, and specifically remotes that will work.

I will say, using the remote is pretty much a novelty. Using it to clean a room defeats the purpose of the roomba. In the words of Ron Popeil, it's best to "set it, and forget it."

My wife actually gave me one because I had been telling her that people on some internet groups had been raving about them. It's unbelievable how much it picks up. As others have said, it really works wonders on pet hair.

Our is six months old and just went dead. It started to turn itself on & off at will. The company is shipping a new one to us under warranty. In my opinion, if they only lasted one year and I had to get a new one after that, It would still be worth it.

Despite my red's early demise, I'm going to preorder their new product called Scoomba which is designed for scrubbing floors.

Did you clean it regularly? Did you use it every day?

I read that the remote allows you to use the "Max" setting, which is a button on the roomba discovery.
