Here's the story, I want to see what everyone thinks...
A month ago I was asked by my friend to give back the couch he loaned my roommate and I since he had room for it now, no big deal. That made us have a need for a couch now, so I opted to buy one as long as my roommate was willing to renew our lease another year since its coming up in two months, he said he was happy here and that wasn't an issue, I didn't want to go and buy a new living room set if I were going to be moving in two months just to have to move it and get it banged up for no reason.
All was good, then Sunday we got stuck in the door our reminder that our lease is coming up from the leasing office with the change of rates, $30 more per month if we resign for anoter year, thats fine.
Well yesterday I come home and my roommate says "how are we going to split the extra $30 per month?" I said "$15x$15" I already pay $70 more per month for the "bigger" room even though its only a few total square feet bigger and has a larger bathroom.
He didn't seem to like that and insisted that I pay $20 he pay $10 since I have the larger room, I said I already pay more for the room and why would that make any sense, but went on to say that $5 isn't a big deal to me and I'll pay it if he's gonna make a big deal about it.
Then he said, "I want the bigger room since you've had the larger room for a year" I said I don't think I'm willing to give it up since this was never planned before and the reason I took the bigger room to start with was because he didn't have steady income and didn't think he could afford the extra monthly cost.
Well he said he wants the larger room because he's cluttered and I keep telling him that I understand him wanting it and to put his extra shelving he has in the dining room area since we don't use it or that I'd be willing to even look to us moving into another place if its that much of an issue since he's able to spend more per month now, which he said he wasn't willing to do.
So basically he gave me a demand of switching rooms which I'm not going for and he got all pissy and won't except no for an answer.
I have another friend that wants to get a place with me and I can afforded to get a one bed room also if need be, so I guess my question is what do you guys think of it all and what would you do if you were in my shoes
Cliff Notes:
Roommate tells me he wants my room for the next years lease term.
I tell him not gonna happen
He gets pissy and now I'm forced to make a choice of moving on or caving, or fighting it out with him more and more until he caves and we both hate each other (which I think is gonna happen no matter what at this point)
Edit: to answer the question, he'd be paying the larger amount for the larger room if we were to do that, but thats just fvcked up IMO to basically tell me to give up my room.
UPDATE: 3/16/05
Well after much talking, thinking, and searching, I've found and put down money on a place for myself (rental), I'll finally be roomate free!
Place is gonna cost me $925 a month for the rent but considering that everything else in the area is $900-1,000, I'm happy.
Worked out pretty well really, just Monday I mentioned to my boss about getting a raise more in passing really and yesterday he told me I got it and will be making $5,000 more a year!!! Fvcking sweet!!
I might post pics of the place once I move in if I get around to it.
