Hey everyone,
I live in a three bedroom apartment with two of my best friends, we just moved in two weeks ago. One of my roomates has a cat that is annoying as hell, always trashing my bathroom and tearing up the toilet paper/etc. Fine, I deal with it, but one day he comes home and says that he is getting a dog.

Now, I know this guy, and he is never around all that much because he is working or spending time with his fiance. That means that me and my other roomate would end up taking care of the thing. I've talked it over with the other roomate and he is against the dog also.

I plan on having a talk between the three of us later this afternoon, but I have a feeling no matter what we say he is going to get this dog anyways. Has anyone been in this situation before? It sucks because this is a decision that affects all three of us but he is not showing us any respect and just decided he is getting this dog.

How good a friend could he be if he refuses to consider your thoughts on the matter?

When you're stuck taking care of the dog, drop the dog and the cat off at the animal shelter. "Oops, I accidently left the door open."

i think once the dog starts licking your face and showing you love, you will love him and everyone will love each other.

i picture a big lovefest with the dog in the middle, sapping every ounce of love all of you have to offer.

give him some nice treats, maybe a rawhide chew or a new toy. and pet that kitty too.

This.

But yes, it will suck.

My roommate wanted a dog but I told him that if he got one I would transfer my lease over to a random person. Too bad I didn't think of that before we got a chinchilla, rabbit, fancy mice, and a 60 gallon fish tank  (the girls do love the chinchilla though and I can make earmuffs out of it if the heat breaks!)

Increase his rent to compensate for the work you two will put towards his pets. His part of the rent and bills should be no less than 40%.

Just don't take care of the dog. If the dog shits or tears up the apartment, start charging him to clean/fix the problems caused by the dog.

Antifreeze is like kryptonite for dogs.

Your "joke" is not funny. Please don't make the mistake of repeating it here. To everyone who reads this, consider yourself warned.

Why doesn't he just give a dog to his fiancee? If she does not want one there is no reason for him to get one either, as he'd have to get rid of it after a while again then anyway. If she does like dogs he can give her one, and only her (potential) roommates get screwed over.

When he leaves the house lock the dog in his room, if it shits in the house, throw that shit in his room, etc....

Get something that can eat both the cat and the dog.

sounds like you are the one that doesn't fit in.

Do you ever think your other two roomies wonder why you are at home all day and night?

Dog and a cat in a 3 bedroom apartment? Fuck that, might as well make it into a zoo.

Tell him no dog, or you're moving out.

I would start picking up the cat's mess by dumping it all over his bed until he started picking it up (assuming you've told him to clean up his cat's mess before).

I would also tell him that the two of you will do NOTHING to help care for his animals and that any mess that the new animal makes (if he chooses to get it) will be left on his pillow if he does not pick it up.

no offense, but you sound like a pushover, and chances are you won't do anything about it when he brings the dog home.

I disagree with the lovefest and agree on the last statement. :p

We used to have dogs..my roommate has dogs, and I was housesitting for a week for a buddy of mine who has dogs. I'm perfectly okay without them..
