Ok, i was browsing cpu's on a site and came across something i don't know about

One product said:

BX80532KE2800D INTEL XEON P4 2.8GHZ 533MHZ SYSTEMS BUS 512K CACHE FC-BGA 604 SOCKET RETAIL BOX

The other says:

BX80532KC2800DU INTEL XEON P4 2.8GHZ FOR 1U 400MHZ SYSTEMS BUS 512K CACHE FC-BGA 603 SOCKET BOX

What does the "1U" mean? I notice some cpu's say that.

well, the U is the other model. notice the bus speed on the one without the u, its 533, then the one with the u is 400. its just different cause of the bus speed.

Yes the front side bus speeds are different in the description, but the 1U is there because the heatsink that comes with the processor is low profile(about 1-2 inch's tall with the fan blowing from the side) so that it will fit in a 1U case.

ok thanks. Yeah, i realized the bus speeds were different, but there are other cpu's with everything else the same except one will say 1U. I should have given that as a better example. Thanks for the info Dack76.

BTW, what does 1U stand for? Is this for rackmount cases?

Yea, it is rack mountable. I believe 1U is the smallest of the rack cases (going up to 2U, 4U, etc.). If you have looked online at any of the new Opteron tests some of them have came in a 1U case.
