roofing leak question

So my roof was leaking into the room. I called the roofer, no response for a week and then finally someone came. He went up to the roof, said the gutters are clogged, and the problem is not with the roofing and left.

Is that logical? Im arguing that the roof should be water proof, he's arguing that it is but the gutters are clogged so the water is backfeeding into the house but then how is it waterproof?

roofs are not waterproof

depending on how bad the leak is and where(first story, second story) I would check and make sure the gutters are cleaned out of debris and ice

If the gutters are clogged badly water can get in underneath the edge of the roof & inside the walls of your house... this has nothing to do with the integrity of the roof itself. Just be glad you saw the leak... somtimes water can flow into the walls for quite awhile without any visable damage & then you have a complete disaster on your hands, also getting your gutters cleaned is a lot cheaper then a new roof!

cool, so cleaning out the gutters regularily and THEN if it still leaks then i have a case?

he's a roofer, that is how it works

keep your gutters clean and get the water away from your foundation
