Why? I don't see anyone who deserves a spot... not yet anyway.

He was the first President I ever voted for (1984).

Though a bad President in retrospect......I think he meant well and was a decent person at heart.

Later Gipper.

Alistar, Steeplerot,

You may vehemently disagree with every last aspect of his policies. On the day of his passing, however, if you have nothing good to say, hold your tongue. If you must posthumously eviscerate him, could you at least have the decency to wait until he's been laid to rest? Must politics infect every aspect of life?:disgust:

No one starts or becomes a saint. The nature of death, which inevitably afflicts all, deserves a modicum of respect. Form is important.

Since the other thread got locked I'll repost what I originally said there...

Rest in peace President Reagan. You were the person who got me interested in politics back when I was 10 and you were running for President. I looked up to you, respected you, and feel a great debt to you for everything you did for the country. You gave us hope at a time when it was low. You made us proud to be Americans again. Most of all I believe you were an honorable man who did what he believed was right.

Goodbye and God bless.

I voted for President Reagan in 1980 shortly before celebrating my 19th birthday and shipping out to basic training.

During his administration, DoD transformed itself back into a capable fighting force. We gained new weapons systems, modern equipment, respect, and much-needed pride.

I'm particularly grateful for his outstanding service to our great nation and truly mourn his passing.

I have to agree. My mother had been stationed overseas when he got elected. She told me the exact things you post today, basically that he gave the military a major injection of morale when he was elected. We were cleaning our house today when she heard, she cried a little :( My uncle (also in the military) is going to be part of Reagans honor guard, they rehersed their duties last year, and I gues now they will get to use them.

I personally don't know much about Reagan - I was just a child when he was in office. I've watched many documentaries on him, and he came off to me as a truely likable guy. He seemed like a person who tried his best while in office, and he will always be known for a personality.

My first Presidential election was 1980 and I proudly voted for President Reagan then and again in 1984.
When he came into office the inflation rate was around 18%, unemlpoyment rate was pushing 9% nationally, mortgage rates were around 14% and the top tax rate was a criminal 70%.

We were right where the rest of the world liked having us, Jimmy Carter's "Malaise". President Reagan changed all of that and did it with compromise, consensus building and on occasion stubborn resolve. He had no congressional majority.

On the foreign policy side he always put Democracy, Freedom and the U.S. before anything else. This may have pissed off some of the "one world government" and closet pinko crowd but who cares. He was doing what all presidents should do, looking out for the interests of the U.S. first.

He was a great leader and statesman.
It's a sad day for those of us old enough to remember what the world and this country were like before he was elected.

He was a great president. No one is perfect, but he was the best one we've had in a long time. He bit the bullet and made some hard choices. He put the long term ahead of the short term and really gave our country a boost when it really needed it. I was actually just thinking a few days ago about how I've never witnessed a president die, or at least remember witnessing it, and thought about how it would be sad indeed. I also wondered how the two battling parties would handle it. I am very impressed. It may take a terrible act, like someone dying, to bring to warring parties together, but it has happened. I guess as his last act, Ronald Regan has united the people of AT P&N.

Reagan was a good guy and President. He earned my very first Presidential vote. He was honest, consistent, and no BS though always rather vague. He seemed more of a tone setter than a details-oriented leader but he lead with conviction and largely followed a true course I think. Every other president after him has been a letdown in comparison.

Please, these people were not crying over Saddam's brothers deaths. Raygun had soo much blood all over his hands and destroyed many familys. Give me a vacation you are all hypocrites or clueless if you shed one tear over this fascist . Good riddance as I said. I do not wish him death but making him out to be some martyr of greed intolerance and hate and a american hero is disgusting.

 No where did I say such. Nice attempt to get me to "discuss" the lack of consistency though. Those sorts of discussions belong in PMs not posted here. Trying to taunt me into it isn't going to work - nice try though.

"Your post is inappropriate troll bait in this thread".

Thank you, Reagan. Rest in peace.

Can't say I agreed with him always, but he was a good man who did his best to serve our country.
BDawg is spot on.

I'm willing to tolerate the hyperbolic odes to the Reagan legacy since the man just passed away but some of you guys sound like Dinesh D'Souza or Peggy Noonan.

Eloquence in simplicity. Very well spoken. Agreed.

HAHAHAah yea that was awsome.

Regan was my favorite president. not only did he stop the cold war but he took our country out of the funk created by Nixon, Ford and Carter.

RIP Mr. President.
