The "connection" so far as I can see exists, but it is attenuated at best. Basically you had these truthers, some of whom were liberals and some of whom were libertarians. At some point, Ron Paul expressed some interest in reopening the 911 investigation because he believed the government hid its own incompetence in the matter from the public. Those truthers who were libertarians then became part of a wider crowd who started idolizing Paul. After Paul's campaign failed, some of his supporters, a portion of whom were truther-libertarians, ended up joining the tea party, along with many non-truther libertarians and many conservatives. While the truther and non-truther liberatarians both initially thought of it as mainly an anti-government movement, it later evolved into a more or less conservative, pro-GOP movement. But there is no evidence that these particular truther-libertarians were the core or nucleus of the tea party, and there is no evidence of a specific group or organization that started primarily as a truther organization and then later got "co-opted" by Dick Armey or some other conservatives to become what it is now. Dick Armey's group, for example, is called "Freedom Works." Freedom Works has never been a truther organization IIRC.
