Yeah...pre-New Deal era, America had a lot going for it but was largely a pretty shitty place compared to what it is today. Speaking of the New Deal era, have you forgotten how well America did during that time period? I think that was about as good as things have been, especially for the middle class. In case you don't know what things were like in the New Deal era (based on your posts, I'm assuming you don't), it was probably the most liberal America has ever been.
Either way, it's pretty clear you've either A) never taken an American history class or B) took one in high school and didn't really care or have forgotten everything you've learned. I know I sure didn't care when I took it, and really didn't learn anything. I've been catching up on my history now that I have more of an interest in politics.
