There are waiters who make more than me, but I have to pay 1/5 my income in taxes and they pay nothing?

Office politics, a.k.a., sucking up to management.

Any examples of companies who 1. pay bonuses 2. doesnt structure those bonuses around some kind of metric beforehand 3. gives you a wink and gives you a bonus even though you didnt make the metric?

Or are you speculating thats what happens?

You have any statistics to back that "most" of them barely make a living wage? I've worked in restaurants, catering, for a decade, and from my experience most of them make a pretty decent living if they are worth a shit, and don't have some retarded habit to cover.

Exactly. And if they don't make a living wage, then their tax rate will be very low.
Is Ron Paul so out of touch that he thinks all tip makers are looking in dumpsters for their next meal?

That's the point I'm trying to make. Why should we feel more sorry for a gal making 15,080.00 a year as a waitress than for a factroy worker making 15,080.00 year? And why give a free ride to those on tips that make decent money?

I'm really not arguing for a progressive income tax, but as long as we have it, income is income, not matter what the source
I'm increasingly agreeing with this, including capital gains. Perhaps primary homes should be excluded, but if one person uses his labor to earn $300K and a second uses his accumulated capital to earn the same, why should the first owe $100K in taxes while the second owes $45K?

My preference is for all federal taxes to be tariffs and sales tax, but short of that I think all income should be treated equally.

What makes more sense is to stop subsidizing restauraters by excluding them from minimum wage laws.

And then let tips be real tips, not a replacement for unpaid wages.

Its not only that. The person who made their money through capital gains paid no FICA taxes on it.

They shouldn't. Earning money through capital gains doesn't qualify you for social security. If you earn nothing but capital gains your entire life and do not quality for SS, why should you pay into it?
