Romney says he won’t cut taxes on wealthy Americans

Mitt Romney rejected claims by President Barack Obama that he would sign off on more tax breaks for the wealthy if elected president, but again declined to offer specifics on how exactly he would accomplish his goal of lowering taxes for other Americans while also balancing the budget.

In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," Romney said he would offset his proposed 20 percent tax cut for all Americans by eliminating loopholes and deductions for high-income earners. He argued that his plan would in effect lower taxes for middle class Americans while keeping tax rates the same for wealthy Americans.

"People at the high end, high income taxpayers, are going to have fewer deductions and exemptions. Those numbers are going to come down. Otherwise they'd get a tax break," Romney told NBC. "And I want to make sure people understand, despite what the Democrats said at their convention, I am not reducing taxes on high income taxpayers."

Romney says he won't repeal all of Obamacare

Romney says he doesn't plan to repeal of all of Obama's signature health care plan. He says there are a number of initiatives he likes in the Affordable Care Act that he would keep in place if elected president.

Mitt Romney says his pledge to repeal President Barack Obama's health law doesn't mean that young adults and those with medical conditions would no longer be guaranteed health care.

I see a video of him talking about defense spending, but lets go with the transcript.

That is what he has said all along but now he actually took it a step further and suggests his loophole eliminations will be aimed at the rich. It has only been Obama and some analysts that are "assuming" the loophole reductions will be at the expense of the middle class.

So there wouldn't be a 20% reduction for the wealthy? Why hasn't he laid out, exactly, which "looopholes" he'd eliminate? I'm assuming that he'd make it illegal to hold funds in cayman island accounts.

He has been too vague with the loopholes. This sheds a little light on them but not much.

Mittens now say the GOP involvement in the debt deal was a mistake.

How about the multiple lies and flip-flops about abortion?

I think he was had about 5-6 different positions over the years, depending on who he was running against.

Obama stated no tax increase on middle America. He did the opposite.

Obama stated that he did not deserve a second term if he did not cut the deficit. He had demonstrated the opposite.

At least Obama had demonstrated that he is not worthy!

Check this out. It's either a whole lot of flip-flopping or a whole lot of lying.

Nice video. Well put together. I especially like at 7:55 when ABC Charles Gibson asked Obama about raising the Capital Gains tax. He told Obama that both times the tax rate was dropped, revenues from the tax increased. In the 80's when it was raised, the revenue went down. So why raise it at all? Obama's response "What I said is that I would look at raising the Capital Gaines Taxes for purposes of fairness"

Isn't raising taxes supposed to be to increase revenue? Well not in a Socialists mind.

Romney himself probably doesnt even know what his own positions are. The only thing he is consistent at is his willingness to say anything to any group to increase his chance of getting elected.

Who in middle American didn't get a tax cut during the last 4 years? Who had a tax hike?

I certainly didn't have any hikes....on the other hand, my taxes have been cut and are lower than ever (at the Federal level). Maybe only temporary as the SS tax cut expires but nonetheless, I've seen nothing of an increase that you talk about. Care to share specifics?

Now, back to the topic at hand. For those trying to throw Obama into this thread, please be so kind to start your own.

The Republican plan, moral scum that they are, is to bald face lie to independents who do not follow politics and believe ad propaganda. They have no personal integrity, no morality, and no shame. They justify being the exact kind of moral scum they claim the opposition is, just to win.

On the other hand, not going back to the same party that left the economy losing 1 million jobs in Nov and Dec of 2008 also sounds good.

3rd party it is...now let's look at our choices....crap.

Given the two choices at least Obama has always remained in his field of left leaning flips. Romney on the other hand has went far left to far right on EVERYTHING.
Do I seriously need to link to the countless YouTube videos or articles to prove this. Republicans need to stop hating on Obama and take a hard fucking look in the mirror. Even though I hate Santorum he was like Obama in a way with his flip flops, he would at least have been a solid conservative believing individual.

No matter what any Republican believes it was obvious almost a year ago now that if Romney entered the race it would be he who got the nomination. It was decided 4 years ago.

To put someone like Romney on the mound to go against Obama is truly an insult to the entire GOP and the American people.

So is this flop or are we back at flip now?
“I’m not getting rid of all of health care reform. Of course there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I’m going to put in place,” the Republican nominee said on NBC’s “Meet The Press.” “One is to make sure that those with preexisting conditions can get coverage.”

His campaign later told TPM he wasn’t signaling a shift in policy and was instead referring to his existing stance in favor of protections on preexisting conditions only for those with continuous insurance coverage — not for first-time or returning buyers.

Someone should explain to Romney what preexisting means.
