Romney Care is very similar to Obama-care so we hear.

Surprisingly enough Obama-care is very similar to the Republican counter proposal in response to Hilary-care in the 90s

The Republicans had no problem with a mandate back then... now all of a sudden they do.

It seems these days the best way to get a Roadblock Republican to come out against something is to have the President say he's for it.

Here's the relevant link showing the similarities between Obama-care and the Republican proposal in the 90s

I have a funny suspicion that some people will refuse to look at it.

Romneycare was a state solution.

Obamacare is on a nationwide basis.

The simple fact is that the federal government has vastly more policy options than a state government has. The federal government for instance could change how insurance is treated for tax purposes by employers, while a state cannot.

Also, on a whole, it should be noted that while Romneycare was right for MA and the product of genuine compromise, it was also a compromise that heavily tilted Democratic since Democrats controlled 85% of the state legislature.

That's a reasonable argument for a moderate or independent voter. The GOP party base will accept nothing less than a complete repudiation from Romney and an outright rejection of any federalist solution that might entail any state from adopting any Romney-Obamacare solutions.

Actually it's a reasonable argument for GOP base that is rabidly anti-federal government and pro state rights. Average independent and moderate voter is interested in actually fixing the health care system.
