Thought this might be a fun topic for people to share battlefield strategies.

I have developed one strategy that works really well in a siege...let the enemies take the walls without opposition, unless you have the stronger wall upgrades where you can place archers on top.

Otherwise, arrange all of your forces in your city center...centrally consolidate your archers/slingers so that they can hit approaching enemy forces from multiple paths...most city centers have fairly narrow streets that lead into them...use your spearmen and infantry to create chokepoints on these streets.

Now this is the key to this strategy...place your cavalry units near a gate that is not facing the approaching siege enemy force...once the battle starts, place your cavalry at a charge and have them maneuver behind the enemy forces.

Some of the enemy units, seeing your cavalry, will move away from the walls and pursue...now this is where it gets fun...if you have more then two cavalry units, use one to pull enemy units in a particular direction, and then flank those units from behind with your other cavalry units...you can usually reduce these flanked units before their buddies can join the fray...rinse, wash and repeat...you can isolate, flank and eliminate enemy units while taking pressure off your men on the walls of your city.

If the enemy has cavalry units, focus on taking them out first using the same tactic...without cavalry support, the siege force will have little hope of breaking up your choke points in the city.

By the time you clean up the enemy units outside the walls that pursue your cavalry, some of the enemy units will have broken through your outer walls, marching on your city center...this is where it gets interesting, because you can charge your cavalry back into the city...more likely then not, these enemy units are already in range of your archers/slingers, and taking heavy casualties in the congested choke points you have already created. Use your remaining cavalry to play clean up by charging these remaining enemy units from behind.

I have taken out siege forces 4 times the size of my defense force using this tactic...it works pretty well, but it does take a lot of timing, patience and micro management.

i use the famed roman wedge formation + archers behind and cavalry on the sides to over-run the enemy.
