rome total war and directx error

tells me it can't find directx 9 even though i have it installed. i tried to installed it from the installer in disc 1 and it didn't do anything because i already have it installed. HL2 runs fine and i believe it uses directx 9

any ideas?

Make sure the video drivers are up to date and are WHQL certified.

Update Sound Card Drivers or Chipset drivers if it's onboard sound.

Make sure you download direct X from microsoft.com.

i was thinking that if i can run HL2, i should be able to run a gam that came out earlier than HL.

Every game is programmed differently.

tried your suggestions and still no go. i downloaded new drivers and dx9c from microsoft which didn't install anything because i already have it on my machine. any other help?

I would try the totalwar.com forums (technical section)... they actually have some CA developers that post some comments there.... some very knowledgeable totalwar people too!
