ROM Flashing Question

If I flash to a new ROM, do all my apps and backups still work?
Email accounts and text messages still there/work?
Or will I lose text messages and have to set up my mail again?

Well you can technically flash without wiping data, but for several roms that is a rather unclean way of doing it. I did that with cyanogen and it's never been all that great. Now as for your homescreens when you change launchers everything is gone so you'll have to set that up again.

now for apps the market actually remembers what you've downloaded and will redownload them when you log back in. You can back up your text messages.


Cleanest way is to wipe data/cache and then set everything back up.

I use "SMS backup" (in the market) to store my text messages in gmail, it works pretty slick, and you never lose your gmail stuff...

I like the Fresh rom a lot, brisk, no freezes, supports 4G (I really don't use 4G that much, but it's nice to have). Dunno what Boomhower is using right now.

Cyanogen gives the best battery life IIRC, but it froze all the time on me.

Use the free version of Rom Manager to back up your current rom...

I have the paid version of ROM manager now.
I'll install SMS backup.

My flash to Velocity wiped everything. Backups with Titanium and ROM manager allow reflashing to stock.

My contact backup was still dodgy. I restored from my google account.

IIRC, the paid titanium backup version now includes SMS. I know for sure it includes call logs.

I like SMS Backup & Restore...backs up to SD card, can restore so your texts are actually in the text messaging app.

I'm using VirusRom Airbourne edition with Ziggy's kernal. Works great and I absolutely love the look of it. For back-ups I use Titanium, the paid version.

OP: Do a complete wipe and clear your caches. You'll have a lot less headaches over the long run.
