ROM BIOS checksum error...

my friend's comp was making some noise and we decided that we open it and see what the problem was....it was some metal piece from the cabinet...we immediately put back the connections and from nowhere it started saying "ROM BIOS checksum error"...it was asking for a boot floppy for reasons i dont know.....I could'nt even get into the BIOS....what could the problem be?..any suggestions guys?...any help will be greatly appreciated....
