Rolls-Royce Sales Soar Worldwide

Sales of luxury Rolls-Royce cars, which cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, have soared worldwide.

The Britain-based manufacturer said Tuesday that global sales in the first half of the year were up 33% compared with the same period in 2013.

Growth was strongest in Europe, up over 60%, with Asia Pacific sales up almost 40%, the company said in a statement. Middle East sales were also strong, up 30%, with the United States and China also seeing double-digit growth.

Germany's BMW, which owns Rolls-Royce, saw vehicles sales rise across the group almost seven percent in the period.

Not quite sure what the point is but

Rolls Royce sold 3,538 cars in 2011 - the first year they had ever surpassed their previous highest sales year- which was 1978.

3538 in 2011
3575 in 2012
3630 in 2013
3936 in 2014 if 2nd half of year sales match 1st

So there are about 400 more people buying a Rolls this year WORLDWIDE than in 2011. Not exactly a statistic that causes me concern.

His point is certain people can afford a $400,000 car and all he can drive is a used beater Corolla; and it just isn't fair!

I haven't seen a RR around where I live, but there are quite a few Bentleys and the occasional super car. I saw an 80 year old lady driving a 911 Turbo S a few weeks back. That was pretty funny.

Considering that there's now also a pimped 7-series (Ghost) being sold under the Rolls Royce brand (I think, incidentally, since around 2011), those numbers don't mean much anyway.
The 60% extra European sales are a good sign for the local economy though. If people feel confident getting that flashy car, they'll also feel confident in making the odd investment.

So Dave is pissed that people can buy nicer cars than he could ever dream of? I don't get the point here.

If it makes him feel and better, Mercedes attempted to break into this market with their extended S class... I mean Maybach and it failed. I guess when the only people interested in your cars are rappers who rent them once a year for a video shoot, it doesn't bode well for the company.

I think RRs are pretty well engineered, I mean, this is the same company that makes pretty much every jet engine I've ever seen on a commercial plane and you don't hear about those failing very often.

I'd buy one, but then I'd want a chauffeur and my husband just refuses to wear one of these while I loll around in the back.

We refuse in our minds allowing us to maintain (at least to ourselves) a modicum of dignity.

But when I drive her around in the Rolls, that usually puts my wife in the mood for the "Naughty Chauffeur" routine.

Not the same company anymore. BMW owns Rolls Royce. Their latest model (Ghost) is actually based off of the BMW 7-Series.

What? Are you saying Rolls Royce Motors and Rolls Royce whatever makes plane engines are different companies now? I didn't know that. If that is the case, I sure as hell wouldn't buy a RR or a Bentley (both are owned by BMW).

But if you just the actual numbers it doesn't have the same impact.

But if you just the actual numbers it doesn't have the same impact.

It is the same deal as the "minimum wage raised states grew jobs more than 50% than those that didn't" thread. The actual change was 0.67% vs 0.98% or some crap like that. Of course, using actual numbers doesn't fit the narrative quite as well.

While that indeed is his point, the real point is that people with money are giving their money to the workers who produce Rolls Royce vehicles rather than hoarding the cash for themselves.

Stuff your mattress helps nobody but Scrooge McDuck sleep better. Buying that RR helps BMW shareholders, the workers making the vehicles, the material companies shareholders, and the miners gathering the materials.

Bentley is actually owned by Volkswagen.

I figured since RR bought Bentley in the 1930s they transferred to BMW when they bought RR Motors. Guess not. I should probably look this up and not base it off old knowledge.

Yeah, they split up when BMW and Volkswagen were both trying to buy the car entity a number of years back. Instead, both companies walked away with one of the IP's. Volkswagen also owns Bugatti, Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Ducati, and I believe a majority of MAN trucks. They are a very diverse auto company.

With Maybach out of business, I don't know how you're going to get around then.

Well, Bentley was sold as a separate IP from Rolls Royce, so I can use buy one of those. I wouldn't have purchased a Maybach anyway, they look incredibly stupid. Now, a Continental GT? Those are bad ass!
