To whoever is responsible for advertising: Ads that spring open on mouse rollover and play sound/video are not acceptable.

What ad is it? A screenshot would be very helpful.

Can you get it to come up consistently? I'm not having any luck.

That is the only one that seems to be doing it (the GE lighting ad). When you mouse over it in Firefox, even when you are just mousing from the forums to the address bar, it pops out and starts talking at you.

I also hate these talking ads.

Alright guys, since I can't get it to come up you're going to have to give me a hand. I need you to capture the location of the original banner ad that triggers this popup; the ad guys can't pull the ad until they know where it's coming from. IE8 has built-in developer tools that are helpful for this, while Firefox is going to need some extensions such as Firebug or AdBlock.

Once we know where it's coming from, we can talk to the ad people and have them remove it.

Now that I can find. We'll see if the ad guys will remove that.

You let scripts run on their own like that?

Block it all! (either with a network appliance - saves a ton of bandwidth or with add-ons.)

Sorry, I realize ads pay revenue but until they just have static images and are hosted on up to date servers, everything is blocked here.

I also hate these talking ads.

Adblock Plus now installed and working. Normally I ignore and don't mind ads, but this one was over the top.

ViRGE: The ad comes up fairly uncommonly, and it seems to me more when I'm clicking on nontechnical forums.

ABP is a must for me, I hate surfing pages full of ads, I never click any of them to begin with so no money is being lost

Unfortunately that's the big issue. It's not as if our ad guys are approving these ads, but the 3rd party ad networks sneak them in there and run them at a low enough frequency that we can't find them. It's as slimy as all hell.:|
