3 years/33 million, with a vesting option that would give him a fourth year at 11 mill if he meets its (as yet undisclosed) terms.

Given Amaro's penchant for overpaying his vets, this could have been worse.

I'm good with it, not that anyone in the Phil's front office bothered to ask me. ;)

Freddy Glavis' bat wasn't ready. Despite his already stellar fielding, he may never hit enough to hold down the starting SS position on a contending team.

That's a good contract for both parties. Rollins is still worth 11M a year, and 3 years with an option reflects his age. Beyond Reyes and Rollins, NO ONE was available.

I'm shocked Amaro didn't overpay. I guess Rollins really did want to come back. Doesn't hurt that no one at all was kicking the tires on him. I was shocked that STL brought back Furcal instead of going after Rollins.

Agreed on all points. The Phils inked Rollins' HS buddy Dontrelle Willis to a one year contract. Some think it was so they could bring him in as a situational lefty reliever when the key thing you want is someone who can walk the bases full while someone else warms up. ;)

But it was most likely a small scale inducement to get Jimmy to sign.

I think St. Louis management not going after Rollins is a signal they know they don't have that great a chance to repeat and didn't want to tie up some of their far scarcer monetary resources in a low OBP SS with declining range in the field.

St. Louis, in my memory, has always had really smart management. Philadelphia, not so much.

I think its a solid signing. I was thinking before they started, 3 years at 10 million per, so they paid a little extra. When you consider Reyes got 100 million and Furcal got a two year deal for 7 million per, this contract seems about right.

Great signing at at 3/$33mil ... Rollins' defense would be greatly missed if he'd have left.
