Roller Coaster Tycoon + Win2k = ERROR

I was running Win98SE and began encountering Explorer crashes, lock-ups, etc., so I UPGRADED to Win2k (I've always been leary of MS upgrades, now I've learned my lesson). Anyway, RollerCoasterTycoon ran fine in Win98SE, but since I've upgraded to Win2k, when trying to load a saved game or begin a new one, I get kicked out to the desktop and RCT exits. Sometimes, I get an error stating:

Error Trapper
Exception Raised-Access Violation
Error Location: Unknown

I have uninstalled and reinstalled RCT as well as applied the latest patches to no avail. And after upgrading to Win2k, I got the latest Voodoo3 drivers as well as SB Live drivers. I've also tried different desktop resolutions and color levels.

Has anyone encountered this problem and what was done to resolve it?

i got that problem too... i think its just one of those games that wont work with win2k properly.

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that. It just sucks though. (Especially since it's my wife's favorite game.) The RCT website said something about patches in the works, but who knows when that will be. ALSO, a buddy of mine did the Win98 to Win2k upgrade and RCT works fine, so that pi$$es me off even more. I may just hafta do a format and reinstall of Win2k.

ScooberHey,

I had same sort of problems. RTC just wouldn't work right in 2k and it's my daughters favorite game. I kinda suspected it would do that since it says to install it in 9x and doesn't mention 2k or NT. No problem, since I am a multiboot fanatic🙂 I just put in on my 95b part and she boots into 95 and plays. Why don't you just set up a small 9x part.

Hey Spamboy, I suspect you don't have a young daughter. If you did you would appreciate a non-violent, non-xxx game that teaches a little about how a business works. Kinda like 'keep your feet on the ground, keep you head above water and keep your hands off my daughter' attitude🙂 Besides, it's fun to pick up customers and drop them into the lake if they think bad thoughts about your park🙂

Thanks Mariner! I never even thought of a dual-boot. I'll give that a try. And now my wife will be able to play WormsArmageddon too - she'll be psyched!

And you're exactly right about RCT being a great game for kids. It also brings out the kids in us adults! When we go to Busch Gardens here in Tampa, we analyze the coasters and try to build them at home on RCT.
