You would think they would have dual feeders coming into the park with a transfer switch. On rides like this they should also have a flywheel system so power remains long enough that people could be stopped at a safe point!
What if that power failure was caused by a lightning strike and those people were stuck up there when it got even closer? I love to watch lightning but run like the wind when it gets (too) close!

Yes they do - but bolts from the blue occur many times when thunder isn't heard and quite possibly before the park safety manager's decision is made to close rides due to lighting vicinity. Even when that decision is made there could be a ride in progress with trains returning to the loading area. Odds are low but the fact that people were left hanging up there is scary.
I was stuck at the top of a ferris wheel (no laughing!) for over an hour once and it was scary. I could not imagine being stuck upside down like that - for any period of time!
