Rollback P7P55D Deluxe Bios impossible?

Recently upgraded my P7P55D Deluxe bios and found to great surprise that I liked the way the bios worked compared to my original. It seems settings a base clock and auto voltage will not by default use the 21 mutliplier, as well as turning off all power saving options. In 0606, these things worked.

However, trying to flash back, EZFlash 2 tells me the bios trying to be flashed is older than the current one, and refuses to go on.

I emailed Asus, but they said that rollback is not allowed because it can damaged the CMOS chip.

Any workarounds anybody knows? I tried BUPDATER as well as old versions of AFUPDATE and Asus Update. Asus update supposedly allows downgrade (there is an tickbox), but gives an error upon pushing the flash button.

Thanks.

Thanks so much! i'll give it a try and report back!

I've tried AFUDOS before just like this, and had no luck. Lets hope the engineering version works.

Didn't work.

After grabbing the AFUDOS Engineering Edition and prepping my USB stick, I typed in the AFUDOS /ixxx.rom /pbnc /n.
AFUDOS came back with the same reply

"ASF signature not found"

I tried that with 0606, an older one for the CD, and 1702 again. I even reflashed 1702 over itself again using EZFLASH2, and tried AFUDOS again, but same error.

The dos tool for this board is "bupdater.exe" if you look for it at the asus site. Maybe I could find a engineering version of it? If you look at the downloads for the Maximum Formula, the supplied DOS bios updater IS afudos. However, for the P7P55D, its "bupdater" and I think therein lies the rub.

The version of Asus update that supposedly allows rollback as mentioned in that post, won't install on XP as it says no Asus board detected.

Looks like I'm screwed:Same stuff I'm seeing.

If you read through this asus vip thread...you will see some people with my same exact problem, but no answer is ever given.

Another guy with the same problem. Declared it impossible.

One suggestion was to hex edit the bios to enter a date that comes later. So I successfully did this, copying the date from the latest bios into the 0606 bios and added a single second by increasing an ASCII value by one. However, upon changing the date, I screwed up the checksum and it won't flash. THUS! i tried generating a checksum and searching for it in the hex of the .rom file, but I'm not having any luck with that. Its like needle/haystack. Uhg, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

There is never a perfect Mobo I guess. My last gigabyte's USB Legacy detect would undo all OC. This Asus won't rollback bios.

Weird. It worked for me but it was on a P6T Deluxe V2. I did not think it would be motherboard dependant. Sorry it did not work out for you.

Still like to rollback if anyone has any suggestions. With the newwer BIOS's manual over-clocking totally disables all power saving options that I can tell. In 0606 it did not, and it was one of the bios's positives.
