Roku XDS USB

I can't seems to get a straight answer on this one. Is the Roku XDS USB port alive or not?

I'm running Ver 2.9 Build 1529. When I place a thumb drive (NTFS format) containing an avi video and a couple of audio mp3s, I can find nothing on the device.

Anybody know what's going on?

No dice with FAT32 either. By the way, where should I be looking for the USB drive? On the high level "Home" menu? Add a channel?

I cannot find any trace of the thumbdrive.

You have to go to the Roku Channels site and download a private channel to access your USB...

Go here first and create an account:
https://owner.roku.com/Login/?ReturnUrl=/Account/ChannelCode/%3fcode=KGULU&code=KGULU

I believe the code for the USB channel to be KGULU, also you will need to convert your video to MP4 format.

It'll be as simple as dropping your MP4 encoded file onto your USB, plugging it into your Roku, going to your channels and selecting the USB, select the file you wanna watch, enjoy

Thanks, Smoove910! The mp3s are blaring and I'm converting a movie to an mp4. I'm certain that it will work.

It seems a little odd, though, that Roku relies on a private channel to do the heavy lifting. Is an "official" version slated to come out?

Not too sure if there's an 'official' one coming out. There are several other private channels if you are so inclined to search for them.

Glad things are working for you now...

An email from Roku tech service seems to indicate that "native" USB is available, even if I have been unable to get to it.

Roku sez:

1. Unplug all the cables on the Roku player and plug it back in after 30 seconds.

If still you are experiencing the same issue then kindly go through the following instructions.

1. Push and hold the reset button which is on the rear side of the Roku player.
2. Release the reset button after 30 seconds
3. Unplug and reconnect the power cable after 30 seconds.
4. Redo the setup of the player.

Note: For all the new models of the Roku player you could find the reset button which looks like a tiny hole at the bottom of the Roku player.

I'll try the new recipe and report back!
