FWIW, I just did a project involving a bunch of Roku LT's and Plex Media Server. Basically, the Plex client for Roku lets you stream (via transcoding) movies to the Roku boxes:

The Plex Media Server is free and is available for Mac, Windows, Linux, and a variety of NAS devices:

Then Handbrake to rip DVD movies: (user had a large collection of DVD's, although MakeMKV would probably be fine too if you have Bluray)

Anyway, their desktop Mac acts as the server, Handbrake is used to rip DVD movies to MP4 files, and then Plex Media Server on the Mac streams to the Plex client on the Roku boxes wirelessly. Works AWESOME!
