everytime i try to create a channel, i get a 169.xxx.xxx.xx:xxxx ip, i know 169 means someting fubar'ed. running XP, turned off firewall, wats up, anybody?

169.x addresses are used by Windows when it can't get a DHCP lease, check your networking.
