Tracking John Poindexter.

Internet activists are turning the tables on an ominous government project and its leader.

By Peter Barnes, Tech Live Washington, DC bureau chief

Internet activists are turning the tables on John Poindexter, the controversial Pentagon official who is creating a global database surveillance system that could collect massive amounts of private, personal information. Find out what sparked the Web campaign, tonight on "Tech Live."

Poindexter, a retired Navy admiral, runs the Information Awareness Office (IAO) at the supersecret Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Poindexter has argued that his proposed surveillance system is needed to fight global terrorism.

But activists have created webpages to invade Poindexter's own privacy, posting his home phone number, his home address, his birthday, information about his family, ways to find his Social Security number, and even a satellite photo of his neighborhood.

Hilarious. :D

There was a similar case of this in Oregon I think. The police searched someones garbage without a warrant and used it as evidence in court. Rulings by the judge and the appelate court said that was legal.

So a local newspaper decided to search the police commisioners garbage, the mayors, the judges, etc... One of the three actually sued the newspaper. Another one just had a good laugh and took it in stride.

Yeah, if you want a sneaky job done, hire a sneaky person. A convicted one like Poindexter is even better.

Yesterday the Senate refused funding for his office until more information about the way they will collect and use the data. It's good to see there are still some senators with a shred of intelligence and decency left. I wonder if they won't sell some weapons to Iraq to finance his office, has happened before....
