L.A. Police Beating Victim Rodney King Arrested Again for Alleged Drug Use

POMONA, Calif. (AP) - Rodney King, whose videotaped police beating led to the
1992 Los Angeles riots, was arrested for allegedly driving while under the
influence of a psychedelic drug.
King, 36, was detained early Saturday following a traffic stop. He showed
symptoms of PCP intoxication, Lt. Darrell Cummings said.
King was released from jail Saturday afternoon after posting $2,500 bail,
according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department booking records.
The arrest was King's third in six weeks, and the second by Pomona police in
the past two weeks.
On Sept. 29, King was detained for allegedly being under the influence of PCP
and exposing himself. Earlier last month, he pleaded innocent to another charge
of being under the influence of the psychedelic drug, which stemmed from an
Aug. 28 arrest at a hotel.
King has twice spent 90 days in jail for convictions in the past few years. He
remains on probation in San Bernardino County for abusing the mother of his
teen-age daughter in March 1999.
The videotaped beating led to riots when four officers were acquitted. Two
officers were later convicted of violating King's civil rights, and he won a
$3.8 million settlement from Los Angeles.
