When I lived in Panama, we'd have little herds of them that wandered all over our housing area. We'd always save our table scraps and give them to them. Most Panamanians called them "Neque" (pronounced "Nikkis" by most gringoes).
The thing I though was cool were the Coatimundis that also traveled in packs. They're like giant raccoons, and they raided just about everyone's trash cans.
