The controversial signs at Illinois tollway plazas announcing "Open Road Tolling?Rod R. Blagojevich, Governor" will soon be changed, a tollway spokeswoman said Thursday.

New signs, keeping the open-road-tolling message but covering Blagojevich's name, will be placed over the old ones, said Joelle McGinnis, spokeswoman for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, before the Illinois Senate voted to remove the governor.

The new signs will have the toll plaza's name and number, McGinnis said. They will not feature the name of Gov. Patrick Quinn or any other politician.

The 32 blue Blagojevich signs were erected in 2004 at a cost of $480,000. McGinnis estimated it would cost $15,000 apiece to change them. Crews probably will replace the signs at night to minimize disruptions

ok. so people are bitching that in 2004 Blagobitch put up these useless signs for $480k. So what is IL going to do now tha blagobitch is out? spend ANOTHER $480K to replace them!

WTF and people wonder why IL sucks.this is a big reason.

i fucking hate politicians. save the dame money and put a sheet of playwood over his name. it will remind people to watch out for politicans and save a few hundred thousand bucks.

nope. at least this was the first time i seen them in IL. now if a goernor has a new road put in or funded sure. but not something like what he did and at what cost he did.

if there is anything its a small sign off to the side. NOT huge ones that go across the road and you can see a mile out. not to mention the cost of $15,000 to CHANGE them is insane.

It happens here in PA; We just got a new treasurer this month, and they've already changed most of items bearing his predecessor's name.

Yes, I agree, New Governor, new signs, they certainly can't leave inaccurate signs that rub salt into fresh wounds, and replacing them with more generic signs that will not need to be replaced every four years seems like a good idea.

Maybe something like this road brought to you, courtesy of the taxpayers of the State of Illinois and matching Federal funding. Stop pay toll, Illinois needs more of your money.

But can't have that, there is no truth in signs legislation yet.

If we can have a Dan Ryan expressway, Illinois can surely pony up the bucks to have a Blogojevich sewage treatment plant or Prison.

Can we make Blogo into a verb? Let me count the ways.
