Friend of mine wants to get a car stereo system with clean bass. What would be good for him, Rockford or MTX?, and what speaker sizes? I was thinking 2 10's but I don't know jack about subs. He'll spend up to $1200.

edit:

He's thinking of getting:

2 12' Subs at 500WATTS MAX, Dual Enclosed Sub box, and AMP at 140WATTS x 2 not the max but good system.

I'd get Rockford over MTX (some)

the MTX 8000's are a strong sub.. very durable, and the pound real hard.. the Rockfords have better precision and will give you more accurate bass.. while the MTX will pound you into submission. they have lines in the same price range... I'd get the Rockfords after hearing them both recently. (of comparable lines anyways).

I had some problems with a cheap MTX setup, so i would stay away from those... If he wants to spend $1200, i would personally go with something like Kicker or JL Audio... They both ROCK :D

if hes willing to spend $1200 then...

phoenix gold amp - titanium series 1200.1 or 1000.2

jl audio subs - 3 12w6 subs (3 of the 12" W6 series)

should be a really sweet setup. itll hit hard and sound awesome.
