I get a pretty sweet discount from working at BestBuy, but the prices are so low that it makes me wonder if the stuff is just overpriced rubbish. For example, I can get the P163C for $30, and the P500-2 for $112.

So am I right by thinking I should skip this deal and look at things like Kenwood or Alpine, or should I go crazy and make my car get 3MPG hauling around five subs and ten amps? :p

Note: In case anyone missed the sarcasm, no I am not going to blast rap in my car. Infact, I don't even want a sub in my car.

So the mids and highs are lacking then? If that's the case I'll just keep looking at other speakers.

Car speakers don't really "sound good", they just make alot of noise, but those 3 ways look good.
The quality of the speaker really has to do with the design, meaning if they look pretty good (magnets are large and strong, surrounds are flexible but stiff, and cone is made of good material), then they usually are pretty good.

that's... largely true, but not completely. there are car speakers that sound good, for sure. the thing that kills them is the acoustics of the cars they get mounted in. and some of the ridiculous mounting positions that installers come up with for tweeters and such.

to answer the OP, i'm not a fan of RF speakers, but listen to them with your own ears and figure it out. what sounds good to me not may sound good to you, or vice versa. Best Buy has sold RF for quite some time now, it's decent stuff but not for me. Then again, i spend too much money on my car stereo crap.

out of curiosity, why exactly don't you want a sub? having a sub doesn't mean you have to be all boomy and blast rap constantly... it just means you get a fuller sound. get a proper enclosure and tuning (and an appropriate woofer size) and you might surprise yourself.

RF of today is not what they use to be. All of their products back then were top notch. I still remember their old Punch 45 amplifier with only 22.5 watts x 2 channels out performing many other amps with 2 or 3 times the amount of power. Now most of their stuff is crap except for their high end line. Also their line of speakers and subs aren't that great (SQ wise), it was their amplifiers that got them their reputation.

And, OP, a good SQ sub in a properly built sealed enclosure can make a big difference in making your music sound not just good but great.

Well part of it was that... But I'm also not sure I want to put that much weight in my car since even though I would be getting a great deal, I don't want to make up for that saved money with more trips to the pump from hauling around a sub (this is assuming subs are that heavy. Remember, I drive a four-banger). Also I don't want to lose cargo space since my car doesn't have much to start with.

And then the last reason is kinda silly, but I worry that someone passing by late at night will look in my car and decide it would be worth breaking into to steal the stuff out of it. I won't have this job for much longer (Buying the fun stuff while it's cheap and save the rest of my money and get back into college) and having to replace all that stuff without a nice discount would suck. Besides the fact my car will get all sorts of damage from the break in.

But also, music in the car is just to make the drive a bit less boring. When I really want to enjoy music I do it at home, which is why I'm saving my money for a proper Klipsch setup.

If you work at bestbuy then DO NOT BUY A PROPER KLIPSCH SETUP. klipsch is a waste of money imho (i hate their horns, doesnt sound natural at all and no midrange). head to a mag logcation and get some deftech/martin logans/vienna acoustics. trust me, ive worked there for 3.5 years and i am a MHT sup now. check out infinitys accomodation, my friend was looking at an RF setup and i talked him into getting the infinity stuff at not much more. their kappa perfect line is probably the best stuff you can get for the money you would pay on that accomodation site.

I hear what you're saying about the sub, it all makes perfect logical sense. :)

and what Snake said about Klipsch is exactly why you gotta buy what sounds god to your ears. I love klipsch speakers and i've seen many professional installs that have sounded phenomenal. (no, not from Best Buy, from a legit high-end home theater company.)

bottom line, get what you like, not what somebody else tells you you should like. if you love RF, great. I like the Kappas well enough for the money; i'd agree with snake about trying those out in your search.

(see? crazy how different people hear different things... and then hear the same things!)
