Just purchased a HighPoint PCI Rocket Raid 133.
The Raid Array is recognized correctly. I'm only using RAID 1; mirroring.
I may be really thick here...but
Does RAID 1 mirror automatically?
Or do I have to go into the software, under
CONFIGURATION, and click START for
Duplicating Progress?
I was pretty sure when I purchased the card that it was automatic, but why then, would I need the manual START?
Thanks for your time...

If you mean the BIOS for the card, you have to make the array, and then maybe tell it (in an extra step) to actually begin the mirroring (not sure though, and wouldn't think you'd need to, but I'm not saying it can't be that way). After that it should be automatic.
I don't know exactly, because I've only used Promise cards for RAID 1, and highpoint's website leaves a bit to be desired. What does the manual tell you to do?

That's the problem. The manual is like thier web page.
It explains what the differant RAID Arrays do, which I knew.
It expalins how to set them up, which I did: RAID 1. You have to enter SETUP during boot-up. I made the array, and it was detected and installed correclt.
But it doesn't say anywhere that I have to install the software after the Aarray is set up.
So, initially, I didn't install any software.
I suspected that it didn't mirror, as there wasn't any hard drive activity. I then installed the software, and found a place where I had to manually mirror the drive.
If it doesn't do it in the background, it's kinda a waste...I could do it manually with NORTON Ghost, or even a tape back up!
Thanks for past and future responses.

You need to create the RAID 1 array using the BIOS setup routines for the board or the Windows management control software that came with the board.

As part of the setup process, you indicate which drive is the master and which is the mirror. Once you set this up, you have the option to duplicate the current contents of the master to the mirror drive so that they will be identical. Once this step is completed, all future disk transactions are automatically applied to both drives so you get your automatic, transparent disk mirroring.

I have been using this product as incorporated into the DFI Lanparty motherboard for a few months and it seems to work quite well.
