A couple of years ago I picked up a rocketcase full tower aluminum case at best buy for $50.

Well my plans for the case were put on hold until early this morning. And I have to say I wished I've gotten a couple of these; these are very nice cases. They are very similar to li-an pc case I have; finish is not quite as smooth on the inside but very similar design; the aluminum is a bit thicker and more rigid than the lian li. I'm tempted to think they are made at the same location. This case would easily be $150 or $200 if sold by lian. Only minor nibble is # of fans (it has 3 120). And this case has real instructions (not that you need them but one thing I always noticed about lian li was the lack of clear instructions - minor nip).

I wonder if rocketfish still make these cases.

My understanding is that they were made by Lian Li for Rocketfish. I have one myself, very nice, roomy case. I am still planning to mount a 480 rad in the top but for now my 120 on the exhaust fan is doing me good. some Lian Li panels may work if you want a window.

the cases have been discontinued, that why they were so discounted when you got yours

edit:

I also added some casters to mine to raise it off the floor. these are similar to the ones I have but not the same, apparently performance pc sold out of the ones i have, which was about 5 buck more.

I had to drill some holes to mount them but I am satisfied with the end results.

dawp is right. Rocketfish is Best Buy's store brand. Lian Li built those cases (were IDENTICAL to certain models) and Best Buy clearanced them out.

I did manage to snap the key in the lock (the key is very brittle metal; but most of the case seems better). Yea it reminded me of lian-li because of the rare horizontal fan which is nearly identical on the pc-plus I have.
-
Hum. can i replace the lock at a hardware store ? Not a huge deal.
-
The fans doen't seem to generate much current but this is the system with 5 hd; 2 optical; tv tuner and z68 (no gpu et all) so I don't think heat will be too big an issue.

I guess I could replace the current fans with something else if heat is an issue.

Oh well I'm happy with the case; pity best buy doesnt' clearance a few more of them :)
-
I think zap mentioned the original deal so thanks zap !
-
Hum I guess if I really care about the lock this might work (I wonder if it includes the lock itself):

It was clearanced out with a decent PSU too. I was impressed.

unless you have young ones running around, I wouldn't bother locking it.

I still have mine as a large HTPC case. With mods, I have 10 drives in there. :)
It's big, so it's perfect for where I have it, and I love it.
I've swapped out three systems in it so far and it's been really easy to work in due to the space.
I'm still looking for another drive cage like the two it came with.

I know you can buy them, but I'm not about to pay that much for something like that. :)
I got one way back when these were sold, the guy didn't need one of the two that the case comes with.

I know what you mean, I wouldn't pay that much my self if I need another one. I'm only using one right now but I'm holding on to the spare If I want to use it latter. I was kind of leery of spending $35 on the casters but I decided to go ahead because of the benefits of raising the case off the carpet.

I don't see where you actually mentioned it, but we got a Rocketfish case from Best Buy a long time ago that was excellent. Tool-free, drive rails, nicely-built 500W PSU with sleeved cables and easy-grip connectors. Lots of fans.

Automatic and un-marked clearance price: $20 (sales rep was amazed).

Didn't use it for myself, though.

I believe it's the one the thread is about.

The Lian Li Rocketfish full tower didn't come with a PSU.
There was a smaller RF case that was really cheap a while later that came with either a 450 or 500 watt power supply at random. (I bought that one too and used the PS until last year)

Nope; this case did not come with a PSU. It was a full tower and very roomy with lots of lian-li last generation stuff. It is by far the largest case I've ever used (easily enough room for 8 hd and 5 or 6 opticals).
-
Anyways I just need to get some ties to fasten the wires. The two things that this case lack (compared to the newest lian cases) is space to run the wires behind the mb and the drive cages don't snap out.

I believe it's the one the thread is about.

I got two of those cases. One is still in a friend's basement, waiting for the perfect build to use it.
