Don't live there so I can't help with a place to crash, but used to live "near" there...

We were actually about 110 miles north of there, but Rock Springs was the closest "big city" to us and where we did major shopping such as clothes for the kids at back to school and such. (we were in Big Piney/Marbleton)

It's kind of a wild town...lots of "rednecks and roughnecks," and I can only guess that with all the recent oil drilling in the area, things have only gotten wilder.

if you're into hunting and fishing, you can't ask for nicer country however. You're almost on top of the Green River and Flaming Gorge Reservoir...home of some MONSTER lake trout...great cutthroat, brook trout, rainbow trout, dolly varden, bull trout, and brown trout in the local streams, rivers, and lakes.
Wyoming has excellent deer and elk hunting as well as "sage dog" hunting as well. (antelope)

If it wasn't so fucking cold in the winter, we'd move back there in a heartbeat. Wonderful country...

Remember, Wyoming has 3 seasons...July, August, and Winter...and it can snow on you in all three seasons...

From Rock Springs, you're about 4-5 hours from Grand Tetons and Yellowstone Nat'l Parks, plus a bunch of great wilderness areas.

If you're a Democrat however, you'll be pretty lonesome in your political views...Wyoming is the most Republican state I've ever been to.

Are you working for Church and Dwight? Why would you want to live in Rock Springs?

One of the larger "trona" mining companies.

Always a fun place in Dec and Jan to be picking up a load of kitty litter! Those lazy bastards never did anything to their loading docks to make it so you didn't have to chain up just to get loaded. Hated going out there for that crap. Cold and windy every time I went there, didn't matter what month it was.

He's a yooper. It's practically Canada so the cold weather won't come as too much of a shock.

If you haven't found a place to live, you're being too picky.

He's never been there. Buying/renting site unseen isn't a fun task. Plus many landlords are flaky as hell and really have no desire to rent. We were trying to make a 4 hour move from one state to another and set up 4 different appointments to see possible rental homes. 3 out of 4 landlords never showed at the time we specified.

A real kick in the crotch when you have to take a day off from work and drive 8 hours to get shafted.

this is true, and every apartment complex i have called is full or really expensive. I have got 2 places i can go now, rooms people are renting. when i moved to TN it was a pain too.

That area lives in a "boom or bust" economy. When the oil fields are busy, finding someplace to live is difficult...and expensive. When the oil rigs are idle, apartments are a dime a dozen.

Depending on where you're going to be working, there are some acceptable options to Rock Springs, such as Green River and a couple of smaller towns.
