Rock hounds...where to buy gems...

I guess turquoise isnt a gem, but I want to buy my kid one. He was born in december and turquoise is the birth stone and he likes rocks. I want an unpolished one if possible. Any idea where to get them?

Maybe when comparing it to plain rocks...otherwise, turquoise is actually pretty inexpensive.
True "gem quality" Sleeping Beauty turquoise is getting rather spendy since they shut down the mine a few years ago...and supply of the most sought-after turquoise is running out, but otherwise...not very expensive at all.
