Has anyone been rock climbing before? Did you climb indoors or have you scaled the "real"
deal? I'm curious because I went rock climbing in Vegas (it was indoors, on an artificial wall) and now I'm thinking of going again (just somewhere local, though). Anyway, if ya like to rock climb and got any tips, that'd be great! thanks! :)

i went to an indoor rock climging place, and had a lot of fun. i've been back a couple of times. it's a rather unique experience. by that i mean that mothing i've ever done before quite matches the feeling of climbing.

ah, finally someone who has gone climbing! :)

it's definitely a different experience, and i'm still sore from scaling that artificial 75 ft rock wall. ;)

Go, climb a rock !
Yeah, it's an unique feeling. Used to indoor during fall and winter for training purposes but nothing beats the outdoor experience.
Take some courses for handling the security, because if you handle these things 100 % right(ONLY 100 %), climbing isn't more dangerous than any other sport(not considering chess and stuff alike sports).
Enjoy yourself ! :D

I climb 5.10s pretty consistently.
I started at 7s and went up slowly. I get sewing machine leg very easily on certain crags.
Traprock rulez. Mountains pure and straight up is too tough for me.
BTW, I don't go free ascend for any reason. That's just suicide in my book.

Climbing! Climb On!
On Belay!

I love it!

I've done indoor a few times, would be interested in real rock climbing but I don't really know anyone else who does it and it's not really something I would want to try with a inexperienced person.

You're absolutely right Daniel, going with an experienced person is the only way to start. Maybe this link is helpful.

woohoo climbers!

I've been climbing for about 1.5 years. I lead 11s these days =)

Climbing indoors is pretty fun, but does not compare to outdoors at all! Definitely find somebody experienced to climb outdoors with. Do you have a local rock gym? If so just start going there on a regular basis and you'll meet plenty of cool people that you can climb with. Like any other sport, climbing definitely takes practice; however, it's a very rewarding sport. There's nothing like the feeling when you top out on a climb that you never thought you would get up.

Climb on!

i've down the indoor things quite a few times, but it doesn't compare the those few times i've actually climed outdoors. if you enjoyed the indoor, do get out and find someone to teach you how to do it for real, its an incredible experience!
