Rock Climbers?

How many of you guys do rock climbing. Though I have only been in it a little while, some of my friends who have been climbing for the last 15 years have been telling me it is gaining lots of popularity. I was wondering how many of you guys go climbing and this includes our bouldering buddies. Also how often, I will start out. I go usually at least 2 a week to the gym (only a substitute because of location) and about every other weekend I goto some real rock (if you can call limestone that).

Also what are some of your favorite places to go?

Started climbing about 3 years ago in Colorado. As my gf's family goes out there for 3 weeks. My gf's brother is an instructor out there...really knows his crap too. Ive tried lead climbing, but alas i just dont put enough effort into climbing to be any good at it. Besides, the only real place to rock climb in michigan is grand ledge...and that place is a joke. So Im just someone who likes to challenge myself, but am not pulling 5.11s. Ill just stick to my 5.9s and occasionally 5.10s
Probably the only notable one I have ever done was a 3 pitch 300' that was a 5'8, 5'9, 5'10 called the good the bad and the ugly.

Woot, I have climbed trad out west a bit , done free climbing all over. But consider myself primarily a boulder . I have pulled
hard V11 .

Favs. any place in utah . I still am in love with the climbing around SLC and any place in the south (Foster Falls comes to mind) for the awesome steep routs. Also the Virgin is nice as is MT.Charleston.

I am pretty fresh at it too, I can usually on a good day put 5.9s in. The guys I learned from are instructors as well (but we were just hanging out), they are big walllers and have actually shot a documentry in Mexico on some other of their friends who are very good climbers. One of their sites that one of the guys started is http://willbelayforfood.com/html/about_the_site.html <- be sure to check out the pink tricam in his links. also check out his forum he just started

My problem is getting the weight/strength ratio good. Since at teh moment I am 225 pounds, I am slowly working it down. But it is kinda hard to do with college as well. But I really enjoy it, and am looking forward to doing some multipitch climbing.

i've only gone gym climbing but i really like it. i used to go like once a week when i lived near the gym.

now i just can't afford to pay the gym fees.

i climb only in the gym... its free for me (school gym) and my parents dont want me outside... meh.
first time climbing was 2.5 years ago and i didnt really pick it up until i got to hopkins this past september. started going 2-3 times a week and have progressed to about 5.11a on TR.

my friend is a pretty avid rock climber. I've gone once or twice, and its a lot of fun. It's a great way to build some muscle.

Not enough time to go more than once every few months, but I would like to go every week if I got some free time.

I've gone once with school. It was pretty fun, but my arms were too weak and it was too expensive to persue further. But recently they opened a three story one on my campus in the gym. Its free for students, so if I find a partner I might go try it soon. Just gotta work on my arm strength some more.

Its usually pretty busy.

As I am learning your arm strength will come fast if you go regularly. Frustrating at first, but you improve fast. Also you learn you have muscle groupings you never knew existed.

Used to go climbing in Yosemite, Castle Craggs, Pinnacles, etc., in 1986-1987 with high school buddies.

Stopped after 1988, as they switched to kayaking, they said it was more fun.

Kayaking is definitely where it's at 😀

Mostly indoor, haven't done much other than bouldering outdoor. Loads of fun though. Wish I had more time for it lately (and more friends interested in it).

I used to do some indoor climbing, and had an apartment at New River Gorge with some friends, but I only made it down there a few times.

My parents might be moving to Charleston at the end of this summer, so I might be checking out New River Gorge.
