Rock Band for ps3 or 360?

So I've decided to get rock band with my brother, but I'm not sure if I want to get it for ps3 or 360. Is there anything specific to each console or are they exactly the same?

I would just get it for my 260 but I'm afraid its going to die to RRoD (again), but I've noticed that ps3 doesn't always get all the DLC that is released on the 360. So i guess my main question is does the 360 version have any big advantages over the ps3 version, because if they're exactly the same on I would rather have it for ps3.

I think they're basically the same, except if you have a GH guitar for ps3 it won't work with Rock Band, but 360 GH guitars work.

Not sure about the ps3, but DLC is very painless with the 360 and the new ones are always up there as scheduled every tuesday

I have the ps3 version and have never played the xbox version.. I do know that the ps3 version guitar is wireless whereas the xbox 360 version is wired controller. I also know that the guitar hero controller will work on the xbox version but not on the ps3 version and I'm pretty sure the DLC is same for both consoles.

One thing I noticed though is that the scores for xbox 360 are higher than the ps3 version on the official rock band website so I guess it must be easier on the xbox 360.. The scores aren't even close -- the xbox version is 10 million points higher but it could be that more people have the xbox version and there are just better bands on xbox i dunno..

So the ps3 version comes with a wireless guitar and the 360 doesn't? Thats pretty retarded imo, I wonder why they did that. Makes my choice a lot easier though....wireless plus I don't have to worry about my system dying are two big pluses for the ps3.

As long as you don't care about not being able to have a 2nd guitarist (for now), it sounds like you would prefer the PS3 version.

The problem is though, if you want to get GHIII on the PS3, you'll need to buy the GHIII guitar. They're not interchangeable. However, If you buy GHIII for the 360 with the guitar, you can also use the guitar with RockBand also. And yeah, it's wireless. Also note, most people prefer the GHIII guitar over the RB guitar. I have GHIII and RB for the 360 (I also have a PS3) and use the GHIII guitar for both games. Perfect setup and have no complaints.

MS's proprietary wireless technology is why. They make it needlessly difficult for companies to make their peripherals wireless.

I always heard it was because of price issues. I suppose the price factor might be due to licensing from MS. On the brighter side MS proprietary wireless tech is also the reason that 4 player rock band is available on the 360.

Right. I should have specified that it is the licensing costs that makes it needlessly difficult.

If you have both consoles, I'd recommend the 360 version. Even if you don't mind having to shell out an extra $60 to be able to play both rock band and guitar hero (since the controllers are incompatible), there's the latency/calibration of the wireless controllers that (IMO) make the wireless controllers no more appealing than wired overall.

does the 360 rockband guitar have the extra set of fret buttons by the neck? I have gotten so used to playing those buttons I have hard time using the 'normal' fret buttons on guitar hero :(

There are way too many reasons to NOT buy the PS3 version. I bought both the 360 and PS3 versions, and the only thing that the 360 version has against it, is that the guitar is wired.

Some would argue, however, that wired guitars are more accurate. And besides the wireless 360 guitar comes out next month (April 15th? correct me if I'm wrong)

I returned my PS3 version for many reasons:

-In Canada, they make us pay $2.99 PER SONG for DLC. Despite the fact that our currency is pretty much on parity with the US dolla bill. Not only that, but I hate giving my credit card out (I'm sure the PSN is safe and whatnot, but I'm holding out for when Sony starts using prepaid cards in North America)

Yeah it's a hastle to keep my MS points topped up... but I go to Best Buy on a regular basis, so it's not THAT much of a hastle.

-I have a 40GB PS3, and therefore I only have 2 USB ports. Rock Band requires 4 USB ports (for the full gaming experience..whenever a 2nd guitar is available) or a hub (an EXTRA $30 for a decent powered hub).
The 360 version comes with the hub, and despite needing it on the 40GB PS3, the PS3 version does NOT come with a powered hub.

-Online play: There are more people with the 360 version, and so there are more people to play against.
Also, the 360 matchmaking, voice and other LIVE things are simply better then the PSN Rock Band equivalents. That's not a bash against PSN. Harmonix just didn't take the time to implement all the same things for the PS3 version.

There are a couple of more things, but I don't have time to go into them all. I'd suggest going to the rock band forums (www.rockband.com/forums) and see what kinds of +s and -s there are.

The only real downside to the 360 version is that if your 360 is vulnerable to RROD (mine is in a year-round constant 13 degrees celcius basement, so no issues with my launch 360), then the hours and hours of play time may take it's toll.

All good info, but I wanted to clarify something since there has been confusion about it in the RB threads before - Even though the PS3 guitars are wireless, they still require a USB dongle to be plugged into your PS3. So as Jorynn said, you will still need four USB ports for four players.

Uhh for exclusive games, not to mention I got it for free so I don't care? Anyway I have no problem buying games on it, I just avoid it when I have another option. Also, a lot of my friends have 360's so its nice to play with them, do I need to justify myself to you anymore or is that good enough?

Anyway I am going to buy the 360 version because my friends don't have ps3's and the more I thought about it I don't think I would mind using the wired guitar as long as the cord is long enough. Also, the reasons listed by Jorynn kind of confirm what I was worried about with the ps3 online play. I do plan on playing with 4 ppl as well, so the addition of the USB hub with the 360 is a pro for it.

No, Activision will not allow it on the grounds that it may cut into their guitar + software bundle sales.

Believe me, if I could play Mass Effect and Dead Rising on the PS3 I wouldn't even have to consider buying a 360 (still haven't bought one, but I think it's inevitable - exclusive games get me, so I naturally want all 3 consoles).

If the 360 had no exclusives there would literally be no good reason to buy one (yeah it has some neat features, but the small hard drive, the bitter taste that Marketplace leaves in your mouth when developers say that they wanted to release DLC for free but couldn't, the monthly multiplayer fee, etc. just kill it for me, especially when you consider the horrible hardware failure rates)

I've heard the Rock Band guitar has a tendency to break, so if I were you I'd buy the 360 version since you can use the GH guitar as a replacement (just in case - or if you use a 4th player). If you're already paying for an Xbox subscription for online play, then you may as well get the most you can out of it, right?

Yep, wont work on the PC version of GHIII either and I think that version is not even supported anymore. I wish there was some HW hack, I would love to use my RB guitar in the other GH games.

I really don't understand this. It's a controller. I don't care what game it's used with. I should be able to use any controller I'd like with it.
