Rock Band Confirmed for Wii

Electronic Arts confirmed today that gamers who currently find themselves without a copy of Rock Band, due to either console allegiance or geography, finally have hope. The European market is scheduled to get the game in some form within the first quarter of EA's financial year, which translates to an April to June 2008 time frame. Execs said that the title would ship in the region "across all SKUs."

In addition to the European release of both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, a Wii version of Rock Band has been finally confirmed. While such a product has been discussed by EA and Harmonix in the past, official word that it should ship this year hadn't yet come.

In other news, Nintendo ships more Wii Play! and announces a rash of Wiimote shortages 😉.

Or some kind of specialized control like a guitar controller.

or the same kind of special controllers that come with the game on PS3 and Xbox360? 😕

I think what he is asking is if every instrument is going to need a wiimote inserted like the GH3 Wii guitar controller.

If the Wii ends up with wireless *everything* via this method, I'd be jealous. Not jealous enough to pay $170 + whatever crazy amount I'm up to in DLC again, but still jealous.

I think the most important news is how they're going to try to work the DLC on the Wii. DLC really is the lifeblood of the EA/MTV/Harmonix Rock Band business model and GH3 is getting it "early in 2008", so I have to imagine they have something in mind.

You'd be jealous? I'd be pretty pissed if for $170 I still couldn't play my instruments without another $40 controller. Who would have 4 controllers anyway? Now if it CAME with the 4 wiimotes necessary that'd be great... but unlikely.

I've owned four Wiimotes since the Wii's launch day. There hasn't actually been a price announcement, yet. I just mentioned $170 without putting any other thought into it. But yes, people can still be jealous of something that may seem like it's not worth the $$$. And for me, an all-wireless Rock Band setup aspect is preferable over my current 360 setup. Are there other factors (Xbox Live) that would have tipped me away from buying the Wii version had they all been released at the same time? Absolutely.

I'll buy this, but only if all of these things happen:

-it is compatible with the GH3 guitar
-there is some form of DLC
-the drums from the 360 version work with this version

If all of those happen I will just buy the disc only and use my GH3 guitar and then I could borrow my friends drums or buy a single set. I don't really like the Rock Band guitar and I'm so used to my GH3 guitar I'm sure I'd use it better.

Of course w/o DLC this is pretty much crippled.

I'd be surprised if the GH3 guitar didn't work... but why would you expect the 360 drums to work on the Wii? That's an absolutely ridiculous expectation. Why would the drums from a completely different console with a completely different interface and control scheme be supported? Are you also disappointed that you can't play Halo 3 with a wiimote?

All they do is use a USB plug-in, right? The Wii has USB ports. Why would it not work? Unless the drums are a different version (like they make use of the Wiimote or something) then I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Because the xbox has a bunch of different buttons that the wii wouldn't be able to process. Each controller has very specific funtions that are mapped to the buttons special to each console... so even though they use the same port the control scheme is completely different. The PS3 version and the 360 version sure as shit aren't compatible and they're both on USB for the same reason, and they even have the same number of buttons.

They're both made especially for each console, and I don't see any way of getting a 360 controller to work on the wii at all.

Yea, the only thing that really has a slim chance of working is the USB mic, just because it's nothing BUT a USB mic. There are no controls on it and everything the singer selects is controlled by an actual gamepad.

I didn't know that they were even 360<---->PS3 compatible. Thats a bit of a rip-off but I guess they just wanna make as much money as possible.

Well then if this has good DLC for Wii and works fairly well loading songs of an SD card then I will probably still buy it anyway.

The glorious thing about USB is that it allows device enumeration, so it doesn't matter that the 360 has buttons the wii doesn't.

That said, they likely won't allow compatibility.
And if they go wireless, there's no chance.

Hi. Is the wii version any different? I think rock band is cool but they need to add a few things to it:

1.Replay mode in which you can watch your groups replay back from any angle without the hud

2. Online co-op in which you can play the story/campaign mode online

3. Ability to create/compose your own music sort of how you can in beats

This could be a disaster but I'm still excited. I just don't know if I am willing to wait that long. If I get a PS3 or a 360 before release I'll be getting RB for that console instead because the Wii is stupidly behind in graphics as it is, and that's okay for a rhythm game, but I'm not trying to buy 2 more Wii controllers. I'm pissed enough about GH3 not being a standalone controller and still costing $90.
